First team squad is 23 in total, including 3 goalkeepers and 2 underage players. So that's 18 of 22 possible outfield positions currently filled. Hypothetically we could recruit 4 more senior players (ie. over 21s). Mighten is only 20 though, so we could add him to the squad regardless of the restrictions.

Thank you - very interesting. It would feel like a bit of a mad splurge if we suddenly recruited four senior players before the end of the window.

Yes, I don't think it's very likely. Almost certainly 1, maybe 2. But I quite like us keeping it tight, less wasted money, easier group to coach, fewer frustrated players outside the 18, meaningful opportunities for promotion to the first team setup for any academy kids that are smashing it. I don't think there's anything in the Mighten stuff, all I've seen is an oddball parody account.

Way I see it, with the 5 subs allowed and the heavy workload given to our front players in chasing and closing down. Then the "back up" role takes on a new meaning.. The bench players are getting a lot of minutes, last 20-30 minutes of each game. And there will be plenty of rotation in the starters as the games rack up.. Imo, it's not as if they'll be warming the bench, waiting for a player to get injured, before they are given a decent amount of minutes.. I think John Jules is a decent example of the kind of role a loanee/rotation player will be getting. In terms of minutes. Just the one start, but has featured in most games..

Gives us room to add something in Jan if we need to as well. Squad feels like it has a good sense of togetherness atm so 1 maybe 2 to add to that without ruffling feathers too much

I think coaching courses these days put a lot of emphasis on small group coaching (especially with the kids, but probably holds for all ages). Massive squads makes it difficult to focus on improving individuals. And, as you say, it might be more obvious where our weaknesses are in January (there also might be an opportunity to poach some of the loanees doing well at lesser clubs - like Azaz at Plymouth).

I agree with you about the subs and rotation, which is exactly what we have been doing. However, our "front three times two" is already Ladapo, Harness, Chaplin, John-Jules, Jackson, Aluko. Mighten would be a seventh in that equation, thus either replacing one of the above or not even getting on the bench. Unless he has qualities which are different from the others, useful in particular circumstances. But would Forest want him just as a bit-part player, not getting the minutes on the pitch to allow him to develop?

I know what you mean. You could throw Humphrey's in the mix, too, as an AM option. Assuming he's not loaned out... I think numbers look good , on paper, whilst we have a virtually , fully fit squad. I just get the impression that KM likes all those front players to be running on 100% energy for the full 90. That high press is a big part of our game. He's hooking them around 60 minutes and replacing all 3-4. Thus , keeping energy levels high on the day. And also, not running players into the ground. I should think the brief will be , to any potential loan signings, something like, "you're not going to start every game, but you'll get plenty of minutes". Like you say, it may not be exactly what a parent club is looking for, for one of their players.

We basically have 6 players to cover the 3 forward roles, but those 6 tend to play at least 25 mins in every game so feels one player short because if one was unavailable for whatever reason we then can’t make an effective triple sub to close a game out I still think it will be one midfielder, one attacker as a minimum to come in.
