Anyone have any recent experience of having a garden office installed and costs.
We are looking to have something installed this year but have to say quite surprised at how the high the costs are especially for those that just get pre built and effectively slot in.
We were looking at having a bespoke one built on site where you have proper electrics installed.
I've seen plenty of online companies that do the pre-built ones which slot in but they don't seem that much cheaper and seem to have things like plug in electrics where you effectively just plug in the office to your mains via a socket. Not sure I'm very keen on that, would rather the electrics are done properly.
Be interested to know anyone who had one installed and rough costs based on dimensions of sq ft.

Perfect storm unfortunately. Obviously massively increased demand with hybrid working plus huge uplift in material costs due to energy crisis.
Probably the worst time to do it but we don't have much choice but to go ahead with one this year. | |

It's the material costs that have caused that, things have gone mad and won't come down now, plus labour shortages will have increased the prices of fitting. |  |

Not done an office but had to build a marketing suite for a client. We commissioned a container refurb. The containers are about £4k to purchase (20 x 8') then the fit out including insulation, flooring, a panel heater, lighting and electrics was about another £9k.
The front was cut out and large upvc doors and windows were added.
Was quite a decent option, but not too sure how warm that would be in the winter months. |  | | |

I was googling how to build my own last night, weirdly. Easy-peasey - just get a few old pallets together, some 2 be 4s, nails and plywood. Hey presto. I'll build yours for a couple of grand if you sort the materials. I'll learn on the job and the job will be a goodun. |  |

Worth double checking planning permission etc too. Depending on location, size, distance from boundaries and multiple other potential complications, it can create a headache if not careful. |  |

We have had a flat roof one built which is almost a year old now.
Its' 4.8 metres x 3 metres x 2 meters.It's on a reinforced concreate base with block work at the bottom of the timber frame. its lined out with plywood on top of celotex for insolation. It has one large double glazed window and another smaller one (which we both bought second hand) and has a IPVC door that was given to us by the builder (he got it from another job).
At the time the cost of external wood cladding or fibre cement was close, so we went with fibre cement. That should save us money (and effort) in the long run with maintenance costs.
The electrics were done by my mate gratis. That was about a days work.
When we were first quoted a price for it, it was £6k - £7k. It ended up costing closer to £10.5k. This was mostly due to rocketing materials costs.

I got a wood cabin at the start of lockdown. It's only 3m x 3m but is plenty big enough to double as a home office and 'man cave'.
The cabin cost c£2.5k (I opted for thick logs for insulation in the winter) and paid someone to build it for me for c£800 - I figured it was worth paying someone with carpentry skills rather than risk bodging it myself.
Local electrician ran elecrtics from the house for another £700.
So all in all c£4k for a home office with electric that is perfectly comfortable in the summer an winter. |  | | |

It’s not the contractors who are profiteering , labour costs and material costs have skyrocketed, but margins on jobs have remained the same, typically at around 6% there’s a massive misconception that builders and tradesmen are reaping a fortune bright now, quite the opposite in fact. |  | | |
