Governemnt have told EFL/ PREM 10:15 - Sep 9 with 4106 viewsabracaDOBRA_

That games can go ahead this weekend. Now up to the sport itself to decide. Black armbands under consideration.

We've got a new moribund 3rd kit, can we just wear that?

Terrible decision if they cancel, hope the EFL see sense and let the games go ahead.

Black armbands must surely be a no-brainer. The Government have done their bit, I just hope the EFL don't f**k things up now.

A person lives a privileged life of 96 years and dies peacefully after a good innings, nothing to be sad about it is a time to rejoice and celebrate her life? Well done Gov.

I'll expect that the various sports will get together and there will either be a all going ahead or all cancelled approach.

Given the guidance from the government I think that all should continue.

I wonder how the fact that Liverpool are at home will influence any potential decision.

Without getting into any of the politics of it, or discussing the right of any individual to mourn (or not) as they see fit, I'm pretty sure that powers that be will be a little bit twitchy about trying to conduct a minute's silence at Anfield.

Football authorities are caught between a rock and a hard place on this. I get the sentiment on here, after all it’s a football forum and we’re all massive ITFC fans, but there are millions out there who aren’t football fans and the EFL/PL will be acutely conscious as to how their actions are viewed by wider society. This is a monumental moment in our history.

I’d be really surprised if we play tomorrow.

I think games will go ahead - then each of the various organisations can say to clubs/teams/arrangers, etc, just make sure you have a suitable tribute so your fans attendees can join in as appropriate (National Anthem, minute's silence, etc) - that would at least allow more people to mourn/appreciate the Queen together?

I think the West Ham response yesterday was a useful indicator of how things could happen?

Yes me too. Couldn't go to last home game due to a relative sadly passing. Been counting on going to this one

That is such a good shout - I was cynical about the point of the thing (apart from making people happy who like that sort of thing and are less grumpy than I), but I now see that it has function as well as form.

I think the game will go ahead.

Which is most inconvenient, as I can't make it tomorrow.

That probably means the games are going ahead and they're just working out protocols, etc?

Or they just want an early lunch....

If they're leaving it until this afternoon, you'd hope that the decision is going to be that games should go ahead. Otherwise they're going to be leaving it terribly late to tell people to scrap their plans.

The mantra in advance of Her Majesty's passing was that in respect of sports fixtures and the like, the "mood of the nation" would be assessed. I think the mood on here is virtually unanimous, amongst monarchists and not-so-much-es alike.

The stock exchange is open today, the weigh-in for that boxing thingy is happening tonight behind closed doors - it seems that Saturday sports will go ahead. The St Leger meeting at Doncaster will surely happen on Saturday, and I have no doubt at all that that is what she would have wanted. In that context, postponing Ipswich-Cambridge to sit and home and pretend to mope seems pointless. National anthem, minute's silence or applause, armbands (and anti-monarchists can maybe wear swimming armbands for a laugh?) - celebrate, respect, hopefully no boo-ing, and then give Cambridge a right old shoe-ing.

I'd say that's just it.

PL are meeting now and EFL will follow. It will agreeing common protocols for games, so playing of national anthem, minutes silence, armbands etc.

I would have thought their main issue would have been around suitable policing levels (especially in London) for these games, as there will be a stretch for all forces due to the number of extra people excepted in London over the next couple of weeks?

Club has just emailed to say no media today as not appropriate in the circumstances, although not sure whether that should necessarily be an indication that the game is off.

Also Life's a Pitch not on BBC Radio Suffolk.

It would seem odd for West Ham's game yesterday against the mighty FCSB in the European Vauxhall Conference league to go ahead right after the death was announced, when horse racing stopped immediately, and then for football games two days later to be called off when there's nothing particular (such as a funeral) happening on that day. Especially given that the St Leger on Saturday will suuuurely go ahead.
