Doing OK at Motherwell it seems. From memory his loan was only until January. With Greg Leigh out for a while I wonder if he we'll see him back as cover.

I forgot he was still our player until his name cropped up on the thread asking for suggesting of 3 players to let go come Jan.

At still only 24 maybe he still has a role to play at some point, like you say even as cover for Leif. Be interesting to see how/if he fits in with McKenna's look now.

He’s a good footballer. The surprise for me isn’t that he’s doing well but more that he hasn’t been recalled due to Leigh’s injury. I’m guessing there’s no recall until Jan.

Figured as much. Big decision in Jan then.

Hopefully Motherwell find a bit of cash in January to make it permanent. Can’t see him having any future with us.

Watching the way things happen in the Scottish Premiership I think it will be more the case that he moves to a bigger club (Aberdeen, Hibs or Hearts) either still on loan from us or as a permanent move. Hopefully he isn't going to follow the career path of Jordan Roberts, playing for Hearts a couple of seasons ago and with Stevenage in the Fourth Division now...

Hopefully his form continues and we can get a fee for him. Certainly a decent player and I hope it continues to go well for him. However, I much prefer Davis and Leigh.

I stand by my view that he'd still do a good enough job for us if Davis wasn't available, especially now we seem to be putting more crosses into the box from wide.

Much like Davis and lots of other full backs of that sort of stature e.g Cresswell, he's susceptible to getting done at the back post, but that's always a possibility.

He's made 8 appearances this season for what is basically a pub side.

You mean the Penney hadn't dropped?

(I'd forgotten too). Decent player, but I wouldn't swap for Leif or Leigh.

Christ no.

We've had a result with those two, especially Davis turning out how he has following a slightly shaky start.

Dunno how long matey's out for though and a bit of versatility in the squad can't hurt.

As I say, I hadn't realised he was still only 24. I wish I was flipping 24.

A tough one, I'd love to be 24 again but not at the cost of being sent to Motherwell.

I actually liked MP but we needed to strengthen and we have.

Given we now play 4231 (I know this flexes with and without ball) we don’t have an actual left footed player like Wes Burns on the Left. Penny was quite suspect at left back with all the variation between Edmundson and Burgess but quite effective going forwards…

All said, he will most likely be exited in Jan or sold in summer. He only had a 2 year deal if memory serves, unless there is a +1 option.

I think the change from MP to Davis and Leigh epitomises the upgrade McKenna brought about in the summer. No disrespect to Penney, but his replacements are light years ahead of him in every way.

He’s also made 40 appearances for Town and St. Pauli. I’d like those on my CV.

I'm a bit surprised people aren't keener on this idea. I don't think Greg Leigh is back until about March earliest. We could have quite a high volume of games for a few months and Davis' staying fit is a crucial part of our promotion push. I know we have KVY but see him more as cover for Burns.

Didn't another poster yesterday suggest Leigh will be back before Christmas?

I saw this and happy to be wrong, but fractured leg would normally take a good bit longer than that.

I thought he was pretty crap and wasn't surprised at all to see McKenna move him on. One of those players who seems to be getting better in people's minds the longer he's out of the side, but he didn't really give us anything. Weak in a challenge, average on the ball, not great positionally either. There's a reason Sheffield Wednesday and soon Ipswich will have binned him off and that's because he's not a top L1 left back.

I've always maintained that he was unfairly criticised, despite the odd few with complexes calling him a pub player, so that's not the case with me.

Completely accept your view although I think you're a little harsh. He's decent enough on the ball and had a good delivery. When George Edmundson was on commentary for the Charlton game at the end of the season he was glowing about him. He could get done on the back post occasionally but so did Davis on Saturday, so did Cresswell a fair bit when he was here.

Overall it's a bit of a pointless debate while Davis is fit, though.
