Don't tell GB. on 13:41 - Dec 7 with 2081 views | jeera | I think the average Scot might believe any oil knocking around those parts is theirs and that they're going to be the next Saudi. There'll be war between the two nations I can see. Wonder how that'll pan out. We have the majority of the naval stuff down here to protect the oil platforms but they do have a few nuclear subs in situ. Then the actual owners of the oil might have something to say too.

Sadly, most of the oil revenues have been used to prop up the UK economy especially under Mrs Thatcher, when Scotland could have been building up a sovereign wealth fund, just as Norway has. These days clean energy is the future, and Scotland has that in abundance.

The jocks should be sh1tting themselves at the prospect of going it alone. Have they not seen what us and the yanks DO to small oil-producing nations with tinpot leaders?

Scexit, like Brexit is based around unicorns-and-fairies economic promises, lies about being able to things you can already do, shallow nationalism and not a lot else. [Post edited 7 Dec 2022 14:15]

Support their bids for large sporting events? Or dig them out of holes then hang them. We don't seem to do middle ground do we.

I didn't realise Scotland could be a member of the EU. What the hell are they grumbling about? [Post edited 7 Dec 2022 16:18]

You’d have to quadruple the number of words, misspell them and miss some out completely to go full Harry. You’d also have to be talking nonsense, so a complete fail

Doubling down on lazy comparisons is Harry's specialty.

Aha, it's all a convoluted plan to get back into the World Cup finals by hosting them!

I don’t really believe any of these polls re Scotland or NI. After all, it’s simple to manipulate a poll to find the result you want. Most of it is sectarianism anyway, both in Scotland and NI. I wouldn’t want the Union to break up but ultimately it will - and I don’t think it will benefit anyone. I can understand Scotland and NI wanting to be completely independent, I can similarly understand the same reasons people voted for Brexit….. …….It’s just I don’t really agree with any of it …..but it’s the people’s choice really. Isn’t it?

You would have thought the DUP current stance would have strengthened the case for Irish unity amongst Catholics in the North. Maybe the Northern Irish Protocol (best of both worlds?) has influenced things. Incidentally, it has always struck me as odd that a sizeable number of Catholics in the North don't support Irish unity. What do you think the reason for this is? A couple of thoughts strike me, although I have no real knowledge. First, better the devil you know. Second, maybe some prefer the more welfare state-orientated UK to, what seems to me, the less welfare state-orientated Irish Republic. For what it is worth, as someone with Scottish heritage and in favour of Scottish independence, I favour Irish unity over the status quo.
