Will Aluko returning make a difference ? 15:37 - Dec 8 with 3415 viewsmarkchips

Anyone fresh up front who can hold onto the ball late in games has to give us a better chance of avoiding these last minute goals against. I believe Aluko and Leigh are the best amongst our subs for adding value to the closing out and protection of narrow leads. Possibly there are stats available to back this up ?

Of course, he's a good player.

We certainly closed games out better with him on the pitch. Plus I love watching him play..

It's an extra number 10, which is going to be useful given our injuries

Hopefully he can add value by adding or creating the vital second (and third!) goal so we're not having to hold on in the first place.

2nd most important player back after Evans imo

Sat. I'd go for Ahadme uptop to start. Then ladapo and Aluko coming on from 60ish minutes after we've got the lead to see us out with a win with holding the ball up the top end of the pitch. Since JJ got injured, we lost all hope of holding that ball up the top end. So having Aluko back is a big big plus.

Ahadme ahead of Ladapo? Are you on crack?

Don't think it'll be to long before we see him get a league start tbh. And it's not like Freddie hasn't had a game or 2 off the bench. As most know I'm a big fan of Freddie however I also think he during our current injury crisis offers more up the top end in regards to helping to hold the ball so could be useful coming on rather than going off when we are looking to see out the game.

At present the recent introductions from the bench of Ahadme hasn't really shown that ability but I think he looks a bit of a nuisance in the box so could be very handy in that opening 60 minutes, and can see him getting amongst the goals just as much as Freddie has.

Being blunt, Ahadme has looked pretty poor every time I've seen him. There may be a player there, but he's miles off Ladapo currently.

Dare I suggest he would have been instrumental in not throwing away some of the leads we had.

I agree and I did say off the bench he hasn't really shown much. However when he started in the cup match. Whilst it was against a lower level side.. he did cause problems and with KM using his squad more than alot of fans expect most of the time ( with Jackson for example. His inclusion surprises a fair few people ). I can see KM rotation Ahadme and ladapo. It wasn't that long ago that people were desperate for ladapo to be dropped not to forget.

We shall see. I'm not fussed either way as I like ladapo but I can just see KM changing it up with limited rotation ability.

I think he will. His ability to keep and use the ball well up the pitch is much needed at times – and more to take the sting out of games as you say than pure attacking threat.

Aluko is also ridiculously good at defending from the front. He has an uncanny ability to close down the opposition and nick the ball or at least slow down their attacks – while not giving away silly free kicks either.

He hasn’t had a lot to work with for the most part. And not sure if it’s by accident or by design, but our team isn’t great at putting the ball into the box for a striker like him to attack the ball.

When we have put balls into the box he has got on the end of them and caused problems. Otherwise we probably need Ladapo who is more of an all-rounder and can deal better with the mish-mash of balls that are played in his rough vicinity.

I think there's a player in there with young Gassan, I like the cut of his jib. I think he works hard, he's physical, I think he has the potential to become a bit of an all round centre forward, albeit he's very raw still and very much a project. He's also been out for a decent stretch and hasn't had too many competitive minutes, especially against upper L1 opposition, so for me it has to be Ladapo leading the line. Chaplin and Edwards in behind him again for now, but great to have Aluko back in contention.

Agree with all that though some people racing to write him off on so little evidence should remember the pathway of J.D. Kieffer Moore and even, to a lesser extent Aaron Drinan, who was never the inept oaf some cast him as.

Just to clarify, I'm not writing him off, he has been out for a while and not really had a chance to develop with us yet - time will hopefully see him become a good player for us. But here and now, on what we've seen so far, he is an impact sub at best.

Was clearly a bit of a panic signing so late in the window too, but that's not to say he can't go on to be our next Shefki, but as you say, from what little we have seen so far, he has some way to go before he starts launching himself into the North Stand.

I did note your "currently". There have been other threads where some have rushed to judgement, even of some of our youth players in such as Pizza Cups.

I keep saying this but the few times I've seen Aluko play I thought he was the best player on the field.

However I'm not sure we should expect too much given he's coming back from injury.

I don't personally see that he's an impact sub as imo he's not had any real impact coming off the bench.. the bit ability and usefulness I saw was only when he started and had the luxury of a solid outing.

Yep, if anyone is in doubt then cast your mind back to Sunderland at home last season....superb.

Not that any of you are in doubt, just a nice reminder of how important he is..
