Reports of air raids incoming across the Ukraine 09:31 - Dec 17 with 1489 views | Mullet | I confess I've lost track of how the war is progressing, we've got a handful of refugees in our classes. Apart from that, I feel like it's slipped from my view a bit. Is this fairly normal at the moment or a sign of Russia trying to make it another Syria?

Attacking infrastructure with long-range weapons. However, things are currently somewhat stalemated on the ground after Ukraine's autumn advances - largely due to the weather conditions (mud, snow, low temperatures) which do not make fighting easy.

Yeah. Putin brought in General Sergei Surovikin to take charge of the Ukraine operation. He was responsible for the civilian bombing policy in Syria.

Reports of air raids incoming across the Ukraine on 10:36 - Dec 17 with 1343 views | Churchman | Basically, Russia’s invasion on the ground has stalled. They are looking to destroy Ukraine’s infrastructure and freeze / starve Ukraine to the surrender table. The only reason they didn’t do it last Feb was because they thought the enemy would collapse without a fight and that meant destroyed infrastructure would only have to be replaced by them. Will it succeed? That depends on what material support the west is prepared to give on basics for a very large population.

I was talking to a German soldier the other day (not that this qualifies him to be an expert on the matter, although he is highly intelligent). He believes the war will last for years, and Russia will ultimately win when Ukraine eventually runs out of fighting age males.

The longer the war goes on the more likely that the Russians will make a mistake and fire on a NATO country which will change everything. If they just continued with the meat grinding infantry battle they would win because Putin does not care how many troops die but his Achilles Heel is the desire to obliterate civilian life.

Should ask him why we have been sending money to Ukraine for the past 30 years.

Zelensky points to Intel that they expect a big Feb advance from the Russians, it coincides with conscripted Russian troops completing a course of training and weather improving. It was mentioned Ukraine are receiving support with 500 troops receiving training per month but are requesting more advanced defences.
