Terrible, wasn't it. I've just got audio, and he went quiet for about 10 seconds in the first half - I had to check the app was still working.

It's not a great quality product I have to say. Usually listen to RS for the away games but obviously had iFollow to watch today. Don't want to be mean but I just don't rate the commentator in general. Maybe a little bit is being so used to Brenner for years but his delivery just seems a bit forced (and a bit cringey at times) and is determined to say every over-used cliche in the book to describe things. |  |

The one I heard was for Baileys ... the Christmas tipple (or some catch phrase along those lines). I didn't bother paying attention to most of them.
At the cricket, they have an area for the fans to do something and the commentators then comment on it. Ones that spring to mind are:
A giant washing machine powered by some chap on a bike advertising some washing powder brand.
Some tea the fans sat drinking advertising the brand of tea (some Asian brand I believe).
Eating ice cream and drinking cold drinks and the commentators make some comment about Sensodyne and "because life's too short for sensitive teeth". | |

I understand it's difficult to get a regular co-commentator (esp for away games), but it's always a bit awkward with having new ones on. Danny Haynes obviously didn't get a lot of the main guy's humour and there were awkward moments where the other didn't know how to respond. [Post edited 17 Dec 2022 18:05]

The plug only gets pulled on the video feed, on the audio feed it doesn't.
There's nothing Wheeler or the club can do about that as it's set up like that by the EFL. |

Couldn’t believe how annoying he was. Verbal diarrhoea, I had to mute him at one point for a break. Found it also so biased towards us in such a tedious way. Very little balance and to keep referring to their goal as a ‘moment of individual brilliance’ and not once mention how weak it was defensively was a bit odd. My favourite bit was when Edmundson was on the ball while he mentioned there had been no changes at the break. And Haynes saying town were in a good position while 1-0 down with 12 minutes left.
I’m sure it’s a hard job and it’s all too easy to criticise but it did grate on me no end. |  |

It seems to be the way of 'in-house' commentary set-ups that the comms are deliberately biased towards their club, presumably to help create a sense of patriotism within the fanbase. There was someone on Twitter last season who posted a compilation of clips from someone like Fulham where the comms were hilariously one-sided, the guy was screaming for a card every time a player was fouled, calling every goal conceded 'lucky', giving eulogies about players after scoring a tap-in etc. which was quite funny for a neutral but having had a taste of it myself it doesn't sit too well.
I turned the sound off watching the Port Vale game as I couldn't stick it - as you say easy to pick holes in something when it's not you doing it and it seems like the guy's nice and enthusiastic which is good but as I said above just seems like everything's forced and it comes across a bit cringey. | |

The issue though is that audio coverage is in theory the only thing available for those in the UK, or those anywhere who maybe can't afford the cost of the video package. In any event, it seemed to me to work perfectly for the video when we had the Radio Suffolk commentary.
The top and bottom of it is that they seem to want to monetise the whole thing, but they are providing a shoddy product, even for those watching on video, and are really short-changing those who listen on audio. [Post edited 18 Dec 2022 10:36]

Didn't realise the video feed was still doubling as the audio feed - that's ridiculous - and cheapskating.
It's not as though thousands of fans aren't paying enough for them to have two crews - I paid around £45 for the season audio pass, and still have to pay £10 on top for video access to eaach game, without any discount. [Post edited 18 Dec 2022 12:42]

I think the club should return to BBC Radio Suffolk commentary for Town TV. Give us independent analysis which is fair and balanced, and with a knowledgeable team who are allowed to critise where necessary. The fans deserve that if paying £10 a time. |  | | |
