You see here's the thing. You are allowed to say you like the original green passport but if anyone was to say they like the original blue British one they would be called all the names under the sun. Weird innit? Personally I could care less what colour it was.

But from a working/living/retirement point of view an Irish passport clearly trumps a British one because those with an Irish passport can work and live in, or retire to, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland as well as the UK, but those with a British passport can do so only in the UK. Andrew Bridgen would call that a Brexit bonus. [Post edited 12 Jan 2023 19:03]

I’m so glad and proud to have one of these on 21:04 - Jan 12 by Lord_Lucan | Serious question - and I should know the answer but I don’t. If I were to divorce my wife and marry an Irish women, would I get an Irish passport? If then I divorced Irish women and remarried my wife would she then get an Irish passport? If the answer to the above is yes then I think I have a cunning plan. Edit - and would my children and grandchildren get Irish passports as well? [Post edited 12 Jan 2023 21:05]

From Irish citizens advice f you are married to, or in a civil partnership with, an Irish citizen, you can apply to become an Irish citizen by naturalisation. You can apply if you live in Ireland or Northern Ireland and meet the following conditions: You are 18 or over. You have been married for 3 years or more. You have lived on the island of Ireland for 3 out of the 5 years before you make your application (see ‘Calculating reckonable residence’ below). You must have lived in Ireland or Northern Ireland continuously for 12 months before the date of your application. You intend to live in Ireland after you have become an Irish citizen. You live with your spouse. You are of ‘good character’

Yes. Switzerland used to be very protectionist, back when I used to live there (the work permit system was very awkward). They were terrified of uncontrolled immigration. But in the did, they conceded in a few areas in order to reap the economic benefits of close links with the EU. UK has become Switzerland of the 1980s, but without the underlying economic strength.
