Many about the pitch "killing the game before we even kicked off" and "Ipswich operating at 100% and us operating at 70%"

One nice comment though.

"Ipswich played really well. Very organised and obviously up for the match against supposedly better opponents."

Fair points about the pitch, it is a bit crap, everyone knows its a bit crap and that is why they are going to upgrade it.

It is always a bit crap in January and February. It'll be better for the last few games of the season.

They should have a word with dementor Evans about it. The current owners are doing all they can. In any case, like the fog last week it’s the same for both teams.

100% natural pitch being somewhat below 100% in mid-winter shocker…

Complaining about pitches is just pathetic. It's the same for both teams. Working out how to play to your best in any given conditions is part of the skill of the game. Interesting to see the condition of their pitch first week in Feb.

Interesting that Kompany also mentioned the pitch.

The pitch is dreadful to be fair and has been for ages. Very much on its last legs. It’s not just them it hinders, we play a style that lends itself to a better surface so it’s certainly not through design that we’ve let it get this way.

Anyone who thinks that’s us at 100% hasn’t seen a lot of us. We made 8 changes for a start.

Who's the groundsman now? And who was the brilliant man who consistently got praise, awards even, for the pitch back in the day - Alan Ferguson?

I wonder when was the pitch last thoroughly 'renovated' too (sorry for all the questions, don't expect you to have all the answers - tho you may of course!).

Back in the day before Ferguson, the groundsmen were Stanley Prendergast and Freddie Blake. I think the latter was head groundsman and the former then took over.

They used to win awards for the best pitch in the country. I’m not sure that was saying a lot given most pitches were mud heaps, but it was good.

Bigger stands, lack of ventilation, light and Evans reducing investment to a box of out of date smartprice seed killed it.

I think the 100% comment refers to energy levels. Town were good; Burnley upped their game after the interval.

Alun Ferguson yeah, to bloke. Think his son used to contribute on here actually, remember seeing a few articles in the past written by him. Name not dissimilar to your username actually.

Think our pitch got a bit of love in the summer but it was always with a view to limping through this season before it can be replaced with a synthetic one.

I really think the pitch contributes to our wobbly defence when we try to play out with Walton - that was definitely my perception during the Plymouth game when they pressed hard - the roll of the ball across the penalty area is somewhat unpredictable. Wonder if hladky might actually have done himself a huge favour today.
