What was with all the police on the way back to the station post-match? Looked as if they were trying to make a point, with all their blue lights switched on.

Or is the norm for the way back to the station these days, given I've heard that there's been an increased amount of silliness this season?

The norm.

Was the same after the Plymouth game.

Was surprised at the amount of police at the station pre-game as well tbf.

Seems a bit OTT for the kinds of matches and opposition we have. I could understand it for the likes of Wednesday, Portsmouth, Cambridge etc., but having it as the norm almost seems counter-productive.

Someone said that it all kicked off at the curve bar before the game and it was like going back to the 70s ….. can anybody confirm that statement ?

After the Cambridge and Peterborough matches they prevented vehicles using Princes Street all the way to the station. Not that Cambridge fans had any trains to travel back on afterwards.

Burnley must have brought 2,000 or so & I guess the police presence is partly proportional to the number of away fans, whioch they will know well beforehand.

Burnley have a bit of a reputation too by all accounts.

After Plymouth game there were police vehicles at station with blue lights flashing, I speculated it was a homing beacon to assist away fans back to the station in case they'd forgotten the route.

I mean it's easy to see the ground from the station, but after a few drinkies the average away fans could I suppose not be able to make the 2 right turns and walk straight to station without assistance.

The liaison officer said a few weeks back that he no longer has a ‘risk’ element to consider/track for ITFC home games. The ones that would have previously been in that category are now so happy we are playing well that any thought of trouble has gone out the window.

The issue that the police now face is post match, where there will be a random gang of late teens turn up from a few estates and batter away fans then disappear again with no idea who they are.

Hence the need for the policing after the game, because they simply don’t know when they’ll turn up.

How very Portsmouth/ Paris!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
