That Fabinho challenge was as bad as it gets and the player is extremely lucky to be able to walk off the pitch, anybody with eyes can see what an awful challenge it is, everybody except VAR man it seems. Seriously, are these guys taking bungs, or what? There’s just too many blindingly obvious decisions not being given.

Liverpool got their comeuppance in the end after another mediocre performance and two shocking challenges from Fabinho and Robertson.

Liverpool have to win the Champions Lg to salvage anything from this season.

Appalling wasn't it? I thought Konaté should have walked too but Fabinho's was more clear cut. Shocking decision not to refer it.

Some finish for the winner wasn't it.

If checking for clear red cards isn't the point of VAR what is? He was last man, clear foul. Goal scoring opportunity is a bit more debatable but for me that's a red all day.

Play on as they VAR check and call it back if you need to. Simple enough surely?

How that goal isn’t ruled out at the end for the 2 blocks that created the space, first for the cross to Mitoma and then to create the space for Mitoma to take the ball down? This is association football not American football

The Konate one was definitely a foul, but can’t be looked at?? Lol, just mad, but that Fabinho challenge is a career ender, horrific challenge and even he knew it.

Don't think it did, as they said on the commentary it was outside the box so they couldn't then do anything.

Though given it should be a red I'm not sure why as that is one of the reasons for having it

I mean VAR not referring it back to the on pitch ref. Crazy decision, just hope the guy who was injured isn't too bad.

The Fabinho one was the one I was thinking of, but let’s face it, if he didn’t give that as a foul, I can’t see the Konate one being given either, even if he did look at it.

The player Fabinho reckless tackled just above his ankle was Evan Ferguson..who as we know just broke through to the first team at Brighton. Feguson left the ground on crutches...

Evan Ferguson suffers nasty injury

Former Brighton striker was on punditry for ITV on the day, and he was as baffled as the rest of the footballing world as to how Fabinho was allowed to stay on the pitch.

“For me, that’s a match-changing incident, so it needs to be reviewed,” Murray said.

“I can’t understand how the VAR referee Neil Swarbrick can say that isn’t a red. It’s a terrible challenge.

“You can see from the player’s reaction, he knows it’s a red. He’s just waiting to be sent off and, somehow, he remains on the field.

“That’s just me as a professional footballer, not as an ex-Brighton player.”

Speaking after the game, Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi was asked whether or not Ferguson was “okay”, to which he responded: “No. We will see in the next few days if it is an important injury.”

While Brighton will be waiting anxiously to find out how long their new star striker will be out for, so to will Stephen Kenny and every Irish football fan.

Ireland began their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 at the end of March when World Cup runners-up France come to the Aviva Stadium, and we will surely need the young striker if we are to stand a chance.

I have said this before and I will say it again. VAR is no better than leaving decisions to the referee and linespersons. The only difference is you are paying 4 or 5 people to look at a screen and make a decision. This can be based on bias as I as an older football fan have seen many, many times over the years. Opinion, which means one person sees it differently to another. Was it a pen, was it a serious deliberate foul, was he onside/offside. We have seen examples of all of these things going one way or another. So where is VAR any better than the ref ? It's only moving the onus/blame from the ref to VAR. One player is in an offside position wasn't interfering with play as with Marcus Rashford, another player not appearing to be in the line of the goalie is deemed interfering with play. Then there's the situation of being offside in part of a move and then being onside when receiving the ball. At what stage and how many passes need to happen before that player is deemed onside/offside ? That's one law that used to be relatively straightforward and is now a lottery. Not VAR's fault but again subjective.

Got to feel for the lad when he's been doing so well.

On a separate but related note - how good would he have been for us in League 1?! Maybe we'd be top already! Ah well.

This exactly, football was slow to video reviews, and could have looked at what worked in other sports, but they are so arrogant that they came up with this abomination
