I don't like it either. But then my ancient opinion is that you play in your club colours whenever there's no clash and in your change strip if there is a clash. Third strips and fourth even are just scams to take your money. But then if referees were always in black this would be a non event. Bah humbug!

Being fair, third strips have always been a necessity- Ipswich home kit being blue and white, historically. I’m guessing that we’ve had predominantly white away kits. So if we were playing against a team wearing blue and white stripes or halves or however Bristol City describe their kit, we’ve needed a third kit. Saying that, the blackout kit is an unashamed money making exercise. But we all knew that. Speaking of away kits - does anyone know what away colours Ipswich have worn since being a professional club?

It's not complete, and I'm not entirely sure it's fully accurate (there's certainly one or two I don't remember, and think they may be the wrong way round in some instances between away and 3rd kit, but this does show a lot of them... https://www.footballkitarchive.com/ipswich-town-kits/ and another, but that only goes back to the 78/79 season https://footballshirthistory.weebly.com/h---m/category/ipswich-town

Thanks for that link - the red and black pioneer shirt looks amazing. I’d be interested to see the away kits from the 30s and after plus the away kits from our amateur days would be interesting. But I imagine all of those kits may well have been lost to time.

I think 'back in the day' the Swedish club A.I.K. (Solna) were the only team in Europe allowed to wear a black kit. (It was they who invented the black-out kit a few seasons ago.)
Blackout kit tonight! on 15:45 - Feb 7 with 1615 views | ArnieM | It always amuses me that Scum have 2nd and 3rd kits….. I mean to say, whoever in their right mind has a kit that clashes with their first kit anyway?

For a long time our second kit was yellow shirts and blue shorts.

I think the official technical description for Bristol City's kit is "red"

Yes, looks like an Arsenal kit. They've got some sort of grey third kit but they wouldn't be wearing it if they were playing us at home.

The Arsenal lookalike kit is their home kit - some sort of throwback number.
