Emergency central midfielder 10:14 - Feb 18 with 1461 views | Asa | With the resources we have and the squad we have, it really shouldn't be necessary but given the situation we find ourselves in, surely McKenna has someone in mind for an emergency role? If Luongo isn't quite ready, Ball, Evans and Camara are out, that leaves Morsy and Humphreys. Morsy doesn't look the force he was - no doubt because of the incredible run of games he's had and Humphreys is a fantastic talent that doesn't look ready for some of the challenges we are facing in some games. So if Morsy was to get booked, or one of the two gets injured, who is the next man up? We've seen Stockwell play everywhere, Bam Bam convert to a defender. I suppose the obvious choice would be Woolfenden as a stop gap in there to do the defensive side of that role? I think we've a number of emergency players there. None ideal. But Wolf would possibly be the best of the lot if we were absolutely desperate? In terms of reading the game, tyhe physical side, passing distribution and being able to drive forward if needed I can't see who else would be next man up. Was it Burton when we moved him there briefly? I wonder if McKenna feels happy he could do that job if no other options. [Post edited 18 Feb 2023 10:16]

True. Had totally forgot about him weirdly. But yes I think he'd be the other player that could be the next best option if it was crisis time.

I suspect Luongo is fine and will be in the squad today.

Good news on Luongo. Morsy and Humphreys have both looked like they've been feeling the pace a bit lately and they could do with having some back up. Feels like the cavalry might arrive too late to salvage a push for the autos but we could have some squad when the play offs roll around.

Can’t tackle and not a lot of mobility.

I’d agree with this. Morsy to drop deep, Aluko just in front of him as a deep lying playmaker / quarterback to get our foot in the ball and pick a pass, with Chaplin ahead of them them to link with the forwards. If we play three Centre halves, one can step out to give Morsy support from deep when we’re being broken against. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Neither are good fits imo but we really are scraping the barrel. Harness dropped in their recently but again, another bad fit. I expect to see Luongo and Morsy today.

Don't think he's got the energy levels needed. A big part of the CM role is to track runners when the opposition are attacking and I'm not sure Aluko would be able to do that at this stage of his career.
