Couple with baby found but not the baby yet 21:19 - Feb 28 with 2732 viewsNthsuffolkblue

Not sure if this has been done but can't see it at all. Been seeing it in the media for a while but see they have found them but still looking for the baby ... doesn't sound promising.

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/hopeful-the-child-is-alive-police-searchin

EDIT: A more up-to-date article. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64804320

One would imagine that if the child were still alive and they care about it they would say where it is unless it is with someone who is looking after it (which I would doubt).

They were picked up with a large amount of cash on them and won't say where the baby is - my first thought was they've sold it.

She's really lost her way hasn't she? Grew up in absolute privilege, now sleeping rough with a convicted rapist.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It's struck me as a bit odd from the start.

I'd completely understand if the police have withheld the whole story for whatever reason, but it appeared very odd for the police to be offering a sizeable reward for locating the couple. I don't think I've seen a case before where a reward has been offered in relation to a missing mother-and-baby case.

Again, without knowing the full facts, the immediate arrest seemed a little odd as well. Especially given that the narrative throughout was a concern for welfare rather than anything more illegal.

Child neglect is illegal, hence the arrest.

I understand that entirely. It just seems to me that these sorts of things don't usually end up with the immediate (or at least, publicised) arrest of the missing person.

Edit: although, yes, I accept that these things don't usually end with the child not being found either

The inclusion of a £10k bounty would suggest to me that there was always more at play here than just the usual concern for the welfare of a missing mother and newborn child.

Especially when they wouldn't say where the child was suggesting that they knew it was dead or cared nothing for its survival if it wasn't.

I do think there is information the police know that they didn't put in the public domain but, then again, why should they? The concern was finding them and trying to ensure the safety of the child.

Their main concern was a missing newborn baby that had received no medical attention and was in the care of two people clearly unfit to care for it. Offering a reward in those circumstances doesn't seem that unusual, nor does arresting the two people responsible for neglecting their newborn baby once they were found, especially as they were found without the baby being safe and well in their care.

I understand your point, but to my mind a reward/bounty suggests that people needed persuading to 'do the right thing'.

Surely in a typical missing mother/baby case, any right-minded individual doesn't need incentivising to report any sightings to the relevant authorities?

Not sure I agree with your logic on why and when rewards are offered. I don't think it's so much about incentivising people to do the right thing as it is about the level of urgency to find who they need to find.

I have just read that the remains of a baby have been found close to where they were arrested. I hope they never see light outside prison walls again. Awful.

Yes, let's fire up the lynch mob before the entire facts are known. That always goes well.

Parents failed to register the baby’s birth.

Parents chose to make a new born baby live on the streets during winter and did not seek any help for the baby.

The parents failed to report the baby’s death.

This is not ok.

I am really not looking for a debate on this one.

I will rephrase for you,

* if what has been reported by the police and media is correct, then I hope the two parents are found guilty and put in prison.

The father is a convicted sex offender. Another fact.

When birthing a child this has to be disclosed to authorities by law. Another fact.

Given recent events, I think the police have become even more desperate to solve high profile cases. I doubt this is ultimately a good thing i.e. the police follwing & cultivating the media.

Pretty much every part of this story that's in the public domain is a red flag for child safeguarding concerns.

Indeed. The fact they fled their home when she showed signs of being pregnant, the baby being delivered in their car and them continuing to go on the run, the fact he's a sex offender and they've been isolated from her family since they met. One of the stories I've read talks about her briefly reappearing on Facebook a couple of years ago to post pictures of their children, who quite evidently are no longer in their care.

They were on the run because they knew their child would be taken away from them at birth. It takes very little reading between the lines to work that one out. She's been estranged from her family since 2016.

Surely the baby being taken away from them is better than just letting it die?!
