Can we get the same situation regarding punditry on the EFL highlights program and see more football coverage ?

You never know, if it's a permanent thing, the money saved may well pay for the odd game to be shown live on 'normal TV'.

Indeed.

IMO, it wasn't nearly as good with no presenters or commentators.

It was rubbish to watch - I can give or take pundits and analysis as not interested in every game - but without commentators, team line ups etc it was a waste of time

Think most football fans watch MOTD, just because it's on..And will carry on doing so, regardless of the format. They will also watch on line highlights....
The key denominator, being, football itself..
I like a decent commentary. But pundits and presenters, are not essential imo...And I think, going by a lot of comments this weekend, a lot of people feel the same.

There isn't a programme, presenter, commentator or pundit, that will ever be bigger than the game of football, itself.. And the game itself, is why we watch MOTD. Commentary, or not..

Have to say I watched MOTD2 last night and it was great. Albeit a bit short. Without the 10 minutes of studio guff between each game, we could have extended highlights too.

C'mon BBC, it's the way to go!

The technology is available to allow commentary to be muted but leave the crowd noise in place.
Why don't they offer this option?
Because too many would select it!!

Lineker earns around £1.3m for his work with the BBC. The Sky contract was reported at $20m USD per match shown live.

I reckon that if the BBC used the money saved by getting shot of Lineker they could indeed fund some live footie - would be about 7 minutes of one match.

However, I like having commentary and it feels a bit pants to me without that. Unless it's Peter Drury or Sam Matterface etc. I can do without the analysis, generally, the same as you.

MOTD is an institution. I’ve watched it since I was a kid and although it has moved with the times, it has also stayed true to its history. I enjoy the commentary and find the punditry informative and sometimes entertaining (particularly Wrighty and Micah Richards)

If you just want to watch the highlights without any of the commentary or punditry, there’s plenty of ways you can do this but I say leave MOTD as it is.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Love Wrighty. He's just got an infectious love for the game.

I'm on the fence with Richards although he has improved a lot over the past few years.

Just anyone but Murphy.
