Through the Looking Glass Part 345848 on 13:27 - Mar 22 with 1057 views | J2BLUE | I do think there is a lesson there. Choose your language carefully. Don't give them any free way out. We know it's fake outrage, they know it's fake outrage but it serves a purpose. Fully support Lineker's right to tweet what he wants and although his tweet was factually accurate it just gives them a way out. Instead of talking about the policy and how horrible it is they got to blow up the language used and focus on that. Which then gets their supporters onside because they compare 2023 UK with peak Nazi Germany forgetting there was a path to that. Sadly I don't think choosing language carefully will catch on. Not in a world where so many people are desperate for their next viral tweet. There'll always be some all too willing to walk into the trap. It's like the next election. Twitter will light up with people attacking anyone who votes Tory and telling them how they are thick racists instead of explaining how their lives would be better without the Tories in government. It's very tempting to just go on the attack but why give them the way out? I always think of this: Like many internet quotes, there's a strong chance she never said any such thing but I think there's a lesson in those words regardless of who said it.

That's a very good point. I'm partly annoyed at myself for becoming part of the problem by: a) being triggered by it b) sharing it as it helps with their message It's also useless arguing against it online because nobody ever wins an online row. I might just delete Twitter and save myself the worry and concern!

True enough. Like Mussolini's lot, Rishi's gang of shysters and bigots can't make the trains run on time, either. [Post edited 22 Mar 2023 13:40]

I wouldn't be too keen to share the wisdom of Mother Theresa, she was a vile human being.

As I said, no idea if she said that or whether it's completely made up like a lot of these quote memes but the words are a good lesson IMO. Hardly sharing the wisdom of someone.

I haven't fact-check each part of the story, but this (the first that came up in my search results) is the general gist: https://www.vice.com/en/article/gvzebx/mother-teresa-was-kind-of-a-heartless-bit

Through the Looking Glass Part 345848 on 14:31 - Mar 22 with 762 views | Guthrum | The nazis in Germany initially encouraged emigration of those they considered undesireables. Until the point they started killing them instead. Quite apart from the fact that the Government has no mandate for turning the country into 1930s Germany and until they face the country in a General Election with that in the manifesto, they have no right to do so, or to tell those who object to leave.

great pod cast - thank you. puts that all to bed at last. "some adjectives have a therapeutic value." indeed.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |
