Incremental team improvement 21:01 - Apr 15 with 1523 viewsVic

Regardless of which league we’re in next season, we will presumably look to continue to improve the team. Given the significant upgrades we got in January and how well we’re playing all around the team it makes me wonder where the next upgrades will be.

I may have blue tinted glasses but surely most of our first team will hold thier own in an upper championship team?

I can’t see Davis, Clarke, Woolfie, Morsey, Luongo, Hirst, Broady, Chappers or Burns being replaced any time soon. Which leaves Walton and Burgess.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

We don’t own Hirst and you’d be a loon to replace Walton

Getting Hirst on a perm would be a superb piece of Summer business

The way some have played we may well have a fight to keep hold of a few, though I feel confident we would re invest the money well.

There will surely be interest in David, Chappers, Wolf and Burns if we don’t get up.

The only Muff in Town.

My first concern would be a finding a equal OR upgrade on Wes Burns..... Jackson can do it in fits and starts but is not consistently good enough.. as I say it might happen that we buy another Broadhead in that position which would intern relgate Wes to a Harness role.

Mck has not upgraded CD yet, if/ when we go up we'll spend big down the centre so new defender, likely to go back in for Taylor in CM and hopefully Hirst on a perm

Would be good to have some better backup for Chappers/ Burns

You assume we have a whole different shopping list if we go up, so maybe Taylor is no longer required or we will need better?

Morsy amd Luongo are superb, but both will be 30+ and feels like we’ll need more legs next season.

True, I think though that Mck would only be wanting Taylor if he thinks he's good enough to make the step up just like Davis,Broadhead Clarke
Will be interesting to see how big the owners back us if we're in the championship

Hirst on a permanent and a second keeper. Then we can always improve on any player we have and I am sure we will bring in a couple who will be better than what we already have. That sees the current best become squad players and a few squad players to leave. Our transfer dealings have been great when you think O'Leary stated we have broken even.

The other key component is to improve every player we have. If we keep doing that and signing the right players too, we are moving in the right direction very quickly. Even better it being the opposite trajectory to our feathered friends up the road.

The loans will be similar in a young prem league youngster maybe the Charlton chap , the rest would probably be out of favour prem players who have a good track record of being promoted in championship like armstrong maybe a bannon or spence on loan

We don't know if Luongo will be here, given he's only on a 6 month deal... If he stays, we'll still need another CM of a similar mold, imo. Due to the physical demands of Championship football. If he's not here, for whatever reason. Then we're prob going to need 2 more in CMF.
I recon, if we go up, we'd be looking to use the loan market, perhaps, to add some decent depth to our attacking positions?
Hopefully we go up automatically, to give recruitment and squad shuffle a head start.. Already hearing moans from SW fans about having to overhaul their squad, but play offs shortening their window.

I don't see how you can currently improve on a defence in this league that has conceded one goal in 11 games lol.

I imagine we'll be looking at potential future Morsy's (depending on how we think El Miz and Camara are going to get on).

And a striker will be needed.

We would have to use the loan market. Look at Burnley, Sheff United, Boro. All of them have utilised the loan market really well.

If you want to compete, you needs some quality prem loanees.

Wouldn’t lose sleep over any of those 11 moving on. I can’t see them all going but I imagine at least 7 will. Get those moved on and add 4 or 5 players of real quality, hopefully Hirst is one of them.

There's a good chance of us and Leicester being in the same league and he's contracted until 2025 - could be a difficult one to prise away. I wonder what his preference would be in that scenario, although I feel Leicester's asking price would be the bigger barrier.
