Exeter/Fleetwood 18:05 - Apr 23 with 2062 views | Zx1988 | Ignoring Tuesday for a second, I can't help noticing that both Exeter and Fleetwood have nothing left to play for this season. I wouldn't expect either team to be anything but professional and 100% committed in their games against us, but might this work to our advantage if we need something from one/both of these games? Are Fleetwood, for example, less likely to play the expected low block against us if they don't need points and, potentially, have one eye on their summer holidays?

Very true. Fleetwood could be a completely different proposition altogether playing with no pressure, and having been told to 'just go out there, express yourselves, and have some fun'. [Post edited 23 Apr 2023 18:09]

We say these things because it provides comfort and reassurance but remember that day when Liverpool could've easily rolled over against Blackburn on the final day to give them the title over United. Liverpool won it in the final minute.

Exeter/Fleetwood on 18:44 - Apr 23 with 1768 views | exeterblue10 | As others have said, don’t overthink it. As for Tuesday, I’ve seen Barnsley twice this season - once at Portman road and once at Exeter - and thought they were poor both times. They must be in the position they’re in for a reason but based on the games I’ve seen, Town are a different level.

It seems to be banded about a lot that it's better to face teams who are 'on the beach' but I've never seen it backed up by anything. That's not a dig at you because lots of people do it.

They were fighting against relegation.
Exeter/Fleetwood on 18:58 - Apr 23 with 1641 views | ITFCson | It 100% has a bearing as the whole psychology of a player is different going into such games and that is hard to change. Without purpose players just play within themselves knowing the points don't matter and giving themselves even 1% less chance of injury by not going for it will be done. I am a professional sports trader and can tell you for example Exeter are 14/1 for this game. Of course we would usually be huge favourites but under normal circumstances they would be circa 8-10/1 but are higher purely because of the mantra of 'nothing' to play for. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Agree. And likewise players that have a lot to play for will find an extra few percent... I can't see further than 6pts for these games...Barring any freakish incidents.
Exeter/Fleetwood on 19:33 - Apr 23 with 1457 views | FrimleyBlue | Well. If we win Tues and plymouth don't. A win sat not only gets us promotion but also takes us top again.. maybe exeter would prefer town as champs other rivals plymouth... ;)

Exeter/Fleetwood on 19:52 - Apr 23 with 1321 views | TheBoyBlue | Teams that we have struggled against are those who have sat deep and thrown everything at the ball when it's got anywhere near their goal. That takes a huge amount of concentration and I imagine it might be harder to maintain that concentration if they haven't got anything to play for. However, that doesn't take into account that players have contracts to play for. I'm not expecting either game to be easy.

Exeter/Fleetwood on 21:37 - Apr 23 with 1043 views | skinnybob72 | I seem to recall the mob up the road needed to win away at Fulham on the last day of 2004/05 to avoid relegation. Fulham had nothing to play for. FT Fulham 6 Nodge 0. Teams with nothing to play for can be dangerous!
Exeter/Fleetwood on 21:42 - Apr 23 with 1008 views | Pinewoodblue | Can remember playing Charlton away on the day they celebrated promotion and we stuffed them. If things go right on Tuesday we celebrate promotion against Exeter. so last day of the season is a fun day.
