Even if Barnsley beat us tonight, their chances of overhauling us are remote due to our goal difference. They're six points behind now, so a win would take them within three. But if we beat Exeter, which we should, even if they win on Saturday they remain three behind. Then even if we managed to lose to Fleetwood and they won their last game (and they've got Peterborough who may still need points on the final day), we'd edge them out on goal difference.
So while tonight is not a free hit, and I'd love us to set up a promotion-winning occasion at Portman Road on Saturday, the chances of Barnsley roaring into second remain incredibly slim due to our GD. Or am I counting wrong? |  |

That's is why I think a few (poss a lot) of Barnsley fans have given up on the top 2. Even if they win tonight they will still need 2 teams from 3 to feckup over the final 2 games and given the form of the top 3 that really isn't likely. |  | | |

Oh yeah, I'm expecting them to throw everything into tonight. I just can't see how they will overhaul us even if we lose. I mean, there is a mathematical scenario where they can but given our recent form - particularly at home - it seems remote. | |

You're right with regards to Barnsley. I don't think the real risk is that they catch us, I think they're too far behind. I think the risk is that a defeat for us opens the door for Sheffield Wednesday. If we lose tonight they'll be thinking a win for them on Saturday will either have them back in 2nd with 1 game left, or have it going down to the final day. |  |

If we lose tonight they'll be thinking a win for them on Saturday will either have them back in 2nd with 1 game left, or have it going down to the final day. |
Yeah, I remain more worried about Wednesday than Barnsley. And we all want to celebrate at Portman Road rather than Fleetwood, but I can see it going to the last day and Derby holding them to a draw at Hillsborough. | |

But if they win, they are three points behind us with two games to go each. So, they would need to win both games and hope we drop points - and hope Sheff Wed or Plymouth drop points too.
So, a win tonight for them *does* keep them in it...
The good news for us is that if we are drawing or winning late in the game tonight, they will have to chase the game. In theory that means chances for us. |  |

There is a Barnsley fan in the office and he is very much of the opinion that he is happy to conceed the game tonight, then they should rest players between now and the play-offs so they can batter Wednesday.

Their chances of top 2 are slim whatever the result, so in a way they have nothing to lose. I'm sure they'd love to get one over on us after the postponement shenanigans (not that we did anything wrong, but that's how they perceive it), but most will be resigned to the play offs regardless. |  |
