Was it EFL or police who decided away ends should be half empty for playoffs? 20:01 - May 19 with 2556 views | Illinoisblue | Capped at something like 2300 for Barnsley and Bolton. Seems incredibly short sighted. Why would you not want full grounds for hugely important games?

It’s on ESPN here but there’s no commentary, just crowd noise. Which is kinda a nice change.

Too important to give the away side the edge of big support. Saw somewhere that Barnsley gave almost exactly the same amount of tickets to Bolton as they were given.

Yeah. Bolton asked for more in a reciprocal agreement. Barnsley said no, so Bolton opened up thier lower tier to home fans for the first leg. Barnsley losing 3-0 at home in front of 4,000 Bolton fans and 5,000 Ipswich fans this season probably made that decision for them!

A big round of applause for both clubs deciding to miss out on thousands of pounds worth of ticket sales and depriving fans the opportunity to attend massive games.

MK Dons did this last season. Allowed us 7k, but gave Wycombe only 2k split between upper and lower tiers for semi play off. Total attendance 13k. [Post edited 19 May 2023 20:33]

Thousands of pounds yes, but peanuts if they win promotion as a result.

These games are so big I think you need to maximize home advantage. Give the away team as little to feed off as possible, hence why they're also confined to the upper half of the stand. Looks naff on TV for sure.

At least fill the gaps with home fans though! Bolton had their fans in the lower tier on Saturday.

The away stand at Oakwell is one tier with a shared concourse, there would be no way to segregate fans there.

Probably this is where police considerations spoil the party.
