Well what a coincidence 15:18 - Aug 6 with 1847 viewsredrickstuhaart

Lovely unique od building, with limited realistic commercial options, gets bought by a private investor and then happens to burn down...

All a bit Norwichy.

It was a fascinating pub to visit. You thought you were drunk the minute you walked in.

Fireman Neil will be keeping me updated with the fire investigation.

The pub's correct name was The Glynne Arms btw.

I suspect Fireman Neil wont be able to investigate it now, as the presumed "owners" seemed to have hired a digger, some blokes who clearly know nothing about demolition and security to keep people away from the site and have knocked the building down into a pile of bricks today.

Hadn't seen that, a real shame, have been in there a few times in the past. was always fun to put a coin on what appeared to be a relatively straight shelf and watch it speed to one end.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

With any luck, they will be forced to rebuild it brick by brick, as they did with one of my local boozers when developers demolished it without permission.

It's the only reasonable response, tbh

I’m guessing you probably remember it more as a farmhouse when it was first built?

Working in construction, booking machinery, workers etc for any kind of undertaking always involves a huge lead time

It never ceases to amaze me that when a building needs to "disappear" quickly the demolition crew seem to be available at zero notice, in this case a few hours after the fire was extinguished.

It is almost as if the new owners knew that there would be a fire and the now-unsafe building would need to be flattened.

And, in a similar vein in CO10, Eastern's whenever it was starting to look a bit shabby, the Tarantela and the old office buildings on the site of Glemsford Silk Mill.

Indeed.... I think we should have some meaningful sanction for those people who demolish wonderful old buildings.

Bring back the Gallows on Gallows Hill I reckon
