Footballers not running to the away end 14:38 - Sep 4 with 3130 views | TresBonne | One of my biggest football pet peeves. Even though it was ruled out, Garnacho tucks in a shot and then bolts for the complete opposite corner to where the United fans are going batsh1t crazy. I just don't get it! If I was a player and I scored down the away end, I'd be straight there. Especially if it's a last minute winner like his looked yesterday.

Being serious, maybe he wanted to celebrate with his mates and simply forgot about the fans - hear of the moment of celebration and all that. [Post edited 4 Sep 2023 15:21]

A goal at the Churchmans end seemed to be celebrated much more conservatively with the players heading to the side or arms aloft jogging back to centre circle. At the other end, it was a giving it large to the North or charging to the J block end of the West. I know they were the two most vociferous home sections and players knew that but at the time it kind of irrationally annoyed me!

There are loads of United in the Premier league, EFL and National game. The only time it should be used for that one club is when they have their local derby. Otherwise they are Man U.

Compromise on that, allow 1 minute from goal award and then the ref can blow whistle to restart the game. Whoever is ready is ready. Got to allow some celebration for the players. In the EPL kindof irrelevant as every goal VAR checked so a fair few the celebrations are done before the goal award! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I read the other day that in one of the Old Firm Cup Finals (think this was in the 90s), Rangers were allowed to kick off by the referee with only 3 Celtic players back in their half of the pitch. Obviously led to the usual conspiracy theories.

There'd be no celebrations... everyone, including the fans, would have one eye on where the ball is as soon as a goal was scored! Sounds pretty boring to me.

I think it would be crazy....imagine the crowd shouting players to get back and the other fans willing their team.....just introduce it as a one month "trial" so that players get the message. Happy with goal celebrations but it has become a great way to waste time. Almost three minutes between scoring and kick of fin the worst cases with a mere 30 seconds added on as per the refs handbook.
