My father was a contemporary of Brian Cant at Northgate.
Older than my dad, during the war an ex pupil called Edgar Lee visited the school to give a talk.
He had been an observer/navigator on one of the six swordfish biplanes that attacked the Battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen in the Channel Dash in 1942. All six were shot down and the leader Eugene Esmond won the VC posthumously.
