Potential centre backs 16:23 - Jul 2 with 4612 viewsbluelagos

Reading that De Ligt is going for £50m which is clearly out of our range, but got me thinking who might be available.

All respect to Woolf and Burgess but I think a really experienced CB would be a great addition to the team - indeed they could both learn from the right player. Rather than the usual young up and coming future star, I'd be looking for someone you might only get a couple of years out of (before retirement) but comes with top pedigree/experience.

Any realistic candidates?

I was championing Eric Dier before he went to Germany for that kind of role but I guess that bird has flown.

De Ligt has not quite lived up to his teenage potential but his is still on the verge of being a world class CB. I say push the boat out as £50 Million would be a bargain. No way would he come to Ipswich though as a majority of if not all clubs in the world would take him.

Mings would be interesting but obviously only available if Villa feel he is surplus to requirements following a terrible run of luck with injuries.

No idea how doable a deal would be, but I wonder if Adam Webster is on ‘the list’. Would give us that Prem experience, very good on the ball and has previous dealings with Mark Ashton.

I don't know about candidates but reading between the lines it feels like Town have set a budget of sub-£10m for a new centre back and are testing the market to see if they can find a player of the right quality in that range.

Mings would be a great call if available (and fit)

Umtiti would not cost much. 30 year old left footer playing for Lille.

If he went to QPR to team up with Dom Ball that would be quite cool.

He would not be available anyway. I thought he was still on loan at Frankfurt but they signed him permanently in January. He would be very happy at a club who have qualified for The Europa League 50 miles away from his home town.

Ronnie Edwards,, been linked with West Ham for ages but Posh want about £10m, big step up for him but was speaking to a lad a work who watches him week in week out and reckons he ticks all the boxes, only 21 so plenty of sell on value..

Just seen Sitters post, wow £3m, only a year left on his contract I think...

Amongst the Geordie fans up here in Newcastle, Dummet has been linked to Ipswich a few times over the last couple of months.

Struijk from Leeds? They have rodon now. Rumoured to be after another from abroad.

Stuijk could cover cb. Lb and dm.

Scott McKenna. Recent free agent.
Good amount of prem experience now.
Left footed.
Upgrade on Burgess for me.

Said in a post a couple of weeks ago that Tyrone Mings could be an option. Also at Villa, what about Calum Chambers? Lot of Prem experience and still only 29

If we signed Callum Chambers I’d have to backtrack on a lot of comments about his ability I’ve made to friends.
