England's striker options. 16:40 - Jul 15 with 1860 views | Mercian | They do not look great going forward. I am not one of those calling for Kane to retire but he does seem to be on the decline. Watkins and Toney are both 28 and Tammy Abraham is clearly not the answer. Maybe KM can help Delap to become an England player but I don't think he has the potential to be the first choice. I think a False Nine is our best option. Bellingham, Foden and Palmer could all play that position. The trouble with a False Nine is that a manager needs to know how to play that system and Southgate is not that man. [Post edited 15 Jul 2024 16:40]

England's striker options. on 16:55 - Jul 15 with 1720 views | NedPlimpton | Kane isn't in decline. He's literally just had his best domestic season Yes, he was crap at the euros but it definitely seemed like he was carrying a knock or was just absolutely spent after a long season Agree there doesn't seem to be much of a pipeline after him though. Worth bearing in mind that Toney and Watkins both didn't get their first caps until well into their mid 20s so the next leading striker could be someone not on the radar yet. A quick look at the England u21 squad doesn't give much hope with Jay Stanfield being one of the few strikers

England's striker options. on 17:02 - Jul 15 with 1633 views | itfc48 | Kane clearly wasn't fully fit and we also didn't play a system which suited him. He's always been better playing with players who want to get in behind like Rashford did for many years from the left. Given pace isn't a huge part of his game he's probably still got another 2-3 tournaments in him providing we actually play to his strengths.

I forgot about Rashford ie Mr inconsistency. At times he is excellent and at others he is someone who replaces Broadhead after 70 minutes.

I agreed Kane is in a decline, Bundesliga, where apart from a few good teams is the equivalent to playing micky mouse, small country Minnows where by Kane has no problems getting involved and scoring. As we have found out, against better opposition where we need all players, not just some, to step up and assert themselves, then he is not the player that can do that. The whole game, mostly due to mis-management reminded me of the Ipswich vs Fulham cup game last season where we were literally just chasing shadows. The thing is we do have players who are on par if not better than a lot of the Spanish equivalents but have no proper coaching as an international team, or so it seems, to show them what they should be doing. England under Southgate seems like a team who doesnt know whether to sit back and defend and catch a team on a break or to press forward and attack. It doesn't do either very well and has relied on individual player brilliance to get the results it has over the years. Thank god we have had the pleasure of watching an oiled juggernaut over the last 2 seasons, where every player knows what they should be doing to the degree we have been spoilt rotten. A decent international manager who doesn't waste friendlies testing players or stupid tactics that will never been followed up on in a proper tournament and who plays the same likely starting players constantly, coaches them as a unit to get to know one another, to play and move, give an go and then maybe, just maybe the team will reach the potential of what it should have all along.

Exactly. If someone would have said at the start of the season that Kobbie Mainoo would start in the Euro final for England, people would have asked who. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We need a system to accommodate the talent we have. Branthwaite will be ready for the World cup, so defensively we will be stronger. Plenty in Midfield with Rice, Mainoo, Gallagher and Wharton. If Rashford and Grealish can find their form again along with Sancho added to our attacking line, then we are stronger again. Just need the new manager to be brave enough to use them in a system that works.

England's striker options. on 07:28 - Jul 16 with 1135 views | ElephantintheRoom | Firstly Kane is probably getting better - he’s just had his best domestic season and taken to German football like der duck to wasser Secondly you could make the same argument about almost ever position, GK, full backs, Stones … wingers. Maybe there’s a 16 year old in the background. Thirdly you don’t need to be that good - Morata has just shown how to make the most of limited ability.

"mickey mouse, small country minnows" I was going to reply but not worth my time.
