Southgate's replacement sorted on 19:49 - Jul 16 with 3045 views | ford6600 | Wayne Rooney also on shortlist! Fits FA profile, glittering playing career, 'managerial experience', but is said to want Henderson as Captain. Rooney asking to be player manager and play in the qualifiers to boost his England goal tally. He said would be sad though to miss out on leading Plymouth Gargle to the Championship title next season

Think it was more a point of needing to have coached elite players at an elite level. Hayes hasnt done that.

Er… She’s got a CV that puts all English male managers to shame. 7 league titles in 12 years at Chelsea, including 5 on the bounce in her last 5 years there, 5 FA Cups, 2 League Cups. She’s no Paul Lambert.

Don't think England are ready for such a massive leap into the unknown. Are we even at the stage where a very well qualified man would be accepted by the majority of fans if he happened to be German?

She's Dutch. Having said that I agree with you. I am not against a women managing a man's team in principle but to be thrust into perhaps the most high profile job in the world is not the way to go. [Post edited 17 Jul 2024 2:57]

Personally, I'd be against any foreign coach just on the grounds of thinking nationality is important for the role. The whole point of the national team is that it is your nation regardless of how good the players are. It does feel like my opinion is in the minority. Then again, if we wanted to win, then I would say Pep would be a good bet and he wouldn't be burdened with the Englishman's burden. The other thing that makes Pep acceptable is that he is Catalonian and therefore wouldn't manage Spain and doesn't particularly care for them. Klopp won't take the job with this timing and I don't know how he feels about managing a foreign club. If it has to be a foreign manager, then they have to have managed in the Premier League and speak fluent English! The other foreign managers we have had have been a disaster!
