Only 4 years!!! 20:52 - Jul 22 with 2008 viewsgtsb1966

I know he served his (very very lenient)time and all that but picked to compete in the Olympics is a no.

4 years is pretty lenient, but according to the article he only served 12 months of it. Seems remarkably light.

Definitely should be nowhere near the Olympics and unless he's the Ronaldo of volleyball, I don't see why you'd be desperate to pick him.

They are calling him a rapist. His victim was just 12 years old ffs. Not only is he a rapist, he’s a paedophile.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

He was wasn't he but we have to hope that the messed up 19 year old wasn't just some manifestation of pure evil and is now a better human being at 29.

As awful and unpalatable as it is, if someone is deemed to have paid their debt to society (by being imprisoned) then surly that person has paid their debt to society and should be allowed to carry on with their life?

I’m not defending the fella but simply offering an argument to why someone should be able to carry on with their life’s post-prison.

He hasn't paid his debt to society. The legal system has failed the victim. It is good that other institutions have higher standards than the legal one.

Nah, for a crime like that they should lead a life of misery. 4 years or a 1000 years, that debt can never be repaid to the victim.

Absolute scum.

....if you accept that 12 months in prison is a sufficient "debt" to repay his crimes.

I don't, and I expect most would agree with me.

He can carry on with his life, but that doesn't mean he should be afforded such "luxuries" as competing in the Olympics, potentially ahead of people who haven't committed such crimes.

I never said that I accept that twelve months is sufficient, simply that what’s the point in prison if ex-prisoners are going to be punished when they are released? And I fully understand that that is an unpalatable thing to say.

Last week there was a thread on here about the lack of jail spaces and the real problem of prisoners reoffending. If prisoners aren’t allowed to go back to their lives then maybe this leads to many reoffending.

That's grim. Depressing that somebody thought it was appropriate to select him in the squad in the first place.
