Chappers 21:43 - Aug 17 with 2771 views | Vic | I thought he was a bit anonymous today. I can’t remember one single thing he did. That maybe because he did the quick and simple passes (was he involved in the move where Delap was floored but Lief was offside?) but didn’t him him mentioned much. Not a grumble, just an observation.

Chappers on 21:46 - Aug 17 with 2723 views | portmanking | If we're brutally honest. His output hasn't been great for 2024 in its entirety really. I do think he's one of the more vulnerable first team players to become more of a squad player.
Chappers on 21:47 - Aug 17 with 2694 views | GlasgowBlue | I think a straight switch with Szmodics next week. Chapers could be a great impact sub, finding space when the game is more stretched.

That’s what needs to happen for us to progress as hard as that might be.

I agree but with Burns likely to be out next week maybe both of them alongside Hutch unless we bring someone else in before then. Or maybe Harness instead of Chappers?

I'd be tempted with three at the back. Muric - Tuanzebe, Woolfenden (some prefer GE), Greaves - Johnson, Morsy, Cajuste, Davis - Hutchinson, Szmodics - Delap

Chappers on 21:58 - Aug 17 with 2502 views | Yppswyche | I thought he had a good first half, like the rest of the starters, and was a right nuisance pressing Van Dyke, some neat & tidy first time triangle stuff when we had it, classic Chappers. Wasn’t a lot of space for any of them to operate in really, and I would definitely not write him off yet!

I thought Harness was so tidy when he can on.

Too true re writing him off - but agree with comments re his performances when Hirst is out. They really are out little and Large. A bit concerned about Burns. We never seem the same without him.

Hmm- yes, but the others didn’t have the same problem. BTW - how strong and immense was Morsy in the first half. Was like he was born to this league. Then he and the others got over run in the 2nd half.

I'm not sure either are good enough if I'm being totally honest. Harness grafts and can contribute from the bench but really didn't play much last season. Chappers has drifted since probably the start of the year to being a peripheral character from a totally integral one. I expect Phillips to take a role in midfield. There were loads of positives today. Walton had no business being that good having not played since league one! Greaves looks a great signing. [Post edited 17 Aug 2024 22:56]

Chappers on 08:20 - Aug 18 with 1393 views | Asa | I got a flurry of down arrows for suggesting a few weeks back this is how I’d see Chaplin in the Premier League. He doesn’t get involved much but then plays a ball round the corner, spins to play Burns in or makes a late run but all of those are read by players at this level. Every time he tried those yesterday the defender was already onto what was happening. He’s now a clever footballer in a league of players with similar footballing brains and doesn’t have enough else in his locker to make a difference. Would love to be wrong but would be amazed if we saw him regularly in the second half of the season as others come in and step up.
