Much nicer than those Tory chaps.

I do question why Keir Starmer needs a £3000 donation from Waheed Ali just so he can buy some glasses, though. Or another £16,000 for clothes. Can’t he just buy them like the rest of us?

At best, they're Cameron's Tories all over again. And to be exposed this early, plus making the decisions they are to the criticism they're getting, just makes me fear the bulk of the country will abandon them in 2029 and trot off to Reform. I actually think Farage being next Prime Minister is far more likely happen than I thought just after the general election.

This is a speech that Sir Keir is going to deliver soon. Reminds me of the scene in The Vicar of Dibley when David Horton renegades on the promises of the election campaign. Anyone know what's Starmer's favourite golf course?

I live in the hope that Labour will realise that there are enough decent, socially-minded, non-self-obsessed voters - who care for the future of their children and the environment - in this country to enable Labour to shift their policies leftwards and greenwards. At the same time they can let go of the tight rein on diverse views within their party, become more transparent in their dealings and help the UK to embrace some kind of progressive and sustainable future. We need this to happen.

I realise that people will say 'Dream on' but I choose to live in that hope, and believe that all things are possible if you have enough imagination.

Perhaps the £4,000 free Taylor Swift tickets take the biscuit.

If I were in charge of Labour, I'd ensure Starmer and the rest of them don't take freebies at all, except perhaps for something like the European Championship final where the PM is probably expected to attend, and would be criticised if he didn't. But if the FA offer this, why couldn't he make a contribution?

I live in hope that there are enough voters as described but I fear the reality is that there simply are not. Several decades of elections would suggest there aren't under a system of first past the post at least.

With the share of the vote they got with a very low turnout I would suggest the bulk of voters are sitting there thinking righto let’s see what you can do! On the present course it doesn’t look like much to me. I know it’s not been long but can anyone point out them making at least a start on their election pledges?

Every party has donors and I'm sure they all get a few perks for their efforts (I'd be annoyed if I donated thousands to the cause and got nothing in return).

This is barely even a story but to equate it to the Tory sleaze we've seen is like comparing a parking ticket offence to Nazi war crimes.

Have you never accepted a freebie, been at an event with a free bar, or got preferential treatment or a gift through your job?

I was a Whitehall civil servant for nearly 25 years and in that time I received no perks at all. Indeed, we even had to pay for our own tea, Christmas parties etc.

That reflected the public sector/service ethos and I do not believe Ministers should be any different because they are public servants too.

The other thing to say is that people bearing gifts are very rarely doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.

Leaving aside your last paragraph, that website appears to be a Labour Party website.

If you enter your postcode, it invites you to sign up to a Labour mailing list.

And the give-away is this at the bottom of the page.

It's unfortunate (for you) that you didn't get any perks like many of us do from time to time. I bet you'd have accepted them if offered though?!

Every gift in every walk of life has strings attached in some way, unless it's a birthday pressie from your mum. It's a long way from "sleaze" though.

Personally I wouldn't have because I strongly believe in the public sector ethos, and the distinction between the public and private sectors, a distinction which admittedly has broken down since 1979.

As it is, I am not saying it is sleaze in a dramatic sense but it is not something I think should be happening. And it is politically inept because at least two of today's papers are leading on it.

For me it is the principle of the matter, not the extent.

People should not be donating to the Labour Party and then getting a civil service job.

Can Watford FC tickets even be described as a ‘perk’?…presumably a donor that didn’t like him very much.

Not in my office in the civil service.

By way of example, a week or so after the Christmas party, we would each get a bill to cover the cost of the party. The cost was covered by the senior staff on a sliding scale and the junior staff were not expected to contribute.

Feel free to provide some evidence that the current Labour Party is more corrupt than the party recently removed from government, let alone many clearly corrupt world governments since you have chosen to throw an accusation of a US party in there too.
