Sammy underestimated as possible #9 ? 06:38 - Aug 31 with 2056 views | stiff_talking | Sammy at #9 is an option. His goal against Man City is exactly what a #9 should be doing. It’s not all about needing Delap and Hirst to stay fit or work out. McKenna has hired players who can add different strengths. Sammy has a footballers brain and knows how to finish.

Most of his Blackburn goals were balls through or over top similar to how he scored at City. We need to go a bit more route one at times an he will score plenty.

Sammy underestimated as possible #9 ? on 09:24 - Aug 31 with 1701 views | Chocorange | Lots of different options from the forward players Omari RW or 10 Delap striker or RW SS 10 or striker Ogbene RW or striker played a few games there for Luton If need arises could see KM coaching Clarke to play right and Omari , both on their natural side. KM has options , he knows exactly what we need!
Sammy underestimated as possible #9 ? on 10:01 - Aug 31 with 1618 views | blue_curacao | I'm pretty sure he'll play Delap then AAH before he plays SS at 9. In my opinion that would be consistent with what we've seen from him before
Sammy underestimated as possible #9 ? on 10:05 - Aug 31 with 1593 views | BlueOura | He will be able to do a job there but we would have to change the way we play. He is not the type who is going to battle with defenders with his back to goal like Hirst and Delap, so in summary it would be far from ideal.

Think sometimes, changing the way we play, might not be a bad thing overall... We have to be able to adapt.. last weekend against City the game was gone, as we conceded 3 goals in 5 mins... Burnley, last season, didn't adapt.. the hope is that we'd adapt a bit more.. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yes, but he seems to also have the sort of movement where he can sit on a centre back and then at the last minute come shorter for the ball. If he's doing that between centre back and fullback (rather than between two centre backs) he can open up a lot of space for the wide forwards (Clarke particularly) to cut into, which in turn can free Davis etc. a bit more. Lots of clever ways to play as a false 9 (I believe is the term). Depends on his situational awareness and instinctive decision making, but I suspect that's one of his strengths.

Sammy underestimated as possible #9 ? on 12:44 - Aug 31 with 1314 views | Bramidan | With Delap, Sammy and Hutchinson coming at you I think a lot of defences will be scrambling! Looking at Delap and SS they are not afraid to put it about.

Totally agree. While sticking with our traditional playing our from the back and free flowing attacking style did wonders in the Championship, the Prem is a whole different ball game as can be seen v out first 2 matches. And what happened to Burnley and Sheff United last season. McK should mix it up a bit more including playing a low block if necessary like what Wimbledon did on Wed and Lincoln, Cheltenham et al in L1. Even if we lose it will keep the goal difference down. Playing the same way every match opens us up for a trashing as can be seen from the 4-0 loss to Leeds last season when we tried to match a team with superior individual players man for man. We will face teams of vastly better and Prem hardened players every week now. If Liverpool didn’t take their foot off the gas and be more clinical we’d have lost by 5 or 6. Ditto for Man City. I’d rather play ugly and nick a point here and there rather than trying to be gung ho and impose our “style” every match. Burnley tried and failed. Really need to experiment a mix of styles and formation this season.
