Well played lads. Proud of them. 22:13 - Dec 27 with 1706 viewsNutkins_Return

Bit of a painful first half to watch but understand what we were trying and most achieving.

McKenna got that second half tweak just about bang on and a pretty even 2nd half.

I'll say it Muric mad some excellent saves. Phillips grew into the game and Broadhead was excellent when he came on. Omari didn't have his best but he knew he had to try and force it at times.

Defence stood up really well tonight.

Agree with all of that apart from the opening line. The only painful time was the minute they scored, the rest of the first half we were, in the words of the Prime anchor, 'resolute'. And impressively so despite our lack of possession.

Yes I suppose I mean more from the point of view of how we are used to watching us. We sacrificed our normal style for the greater good basically. Completely understandable!

I disagree over Muric making excellent saves. He stood no chance for the goal but I don't recall anything other than regulation saves from him (no criticism just that Arsenal didn't threaten aside from the goal and the Gabriel chance he should have buried but missed).

That is an accurate assessment, IMO.

There was also a thundering strike from Timber that was fortunately straight into his arms. If it had branched out or rebounded off Leif then Muric may have stayed rooted to the spot...

Fingertip save to stop Odegaard scoring (didn't think he saved it until the replay). Well out very quickly to another Havertz who hadnt made good contact but would have had a second go if he hadn't come and taken everything. And a good diving save as well but can't remember who it was against.

I may not have flagged so clearly but given how anything he does is negatively jumped on felt it right to call him out doing well.

I think it was going over anyway but I also think any top flight keeper that didn't get a touch to it would be extremely disappointed. For me, it was a regulation save.

Regulation save? You're having a giraffe, aren't you? It was a bullet of a shot and a bloody brilliant save. FFS. And it wasn't going over.

Omari and Delap having mares did a lot to stop our effectiveness sadly

Chelsea are the next test, I suspect they'll offer a bit more attacking options for us but will be a lot more adventurous than Arsenal

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

But for 1 small defensive lapse we draw the game. Put that on our epitaph if we go down.

That's so harsh particularly on Delap. I thought he did well for the most part. Absolutely zero service from an attacking perspective but he held the ball up well and drew fouls to give us a breather etc.

Omari was trying to force things and make things happen but it just didn't happen for him.

I found the last ten mins the most painful, cross the ball or shoot 1-0 down and chance to grab a point.

Probably not. Arsenal held us at arms length after scoring. If they needed to score another they would have done. They didn't push for it. The difference with the Newcastle game is we made it easy for them. As you say, even with the goal last nigh, it was a small lapse rather than clear error.

We have a team trained and coached to work the ball until a good opportunity it found, rather than lumping it in on a slim chance and turning the ball over.

This will be based upon careful consideration of stats and probabilities by KM and staff.

Probabilities?

Last seconds of the game the ball was put into the box and we almost. Almost had a goal scoring opportunity had the luck of the deflection gone our way. That's how sometimes you make your own luck as we've seen from morsy late goals v leicester last season. You hit it and you don't know what could happen.

So if we maybe put more crosses into the box. More opportunities of luck may have happened.

a niche perspective

Disagree. Did he hold on everytime under a lot of pressure? No. But he more than held his own and drew several fouls and a couple of times spun away with it and helped us move forward.

He can't do it all by himself. Never a game that was going to make him look good but I think he did as well as anyone could in that isolated role really.
