Phil seems to suggest we're still in for Doak too... 22:33 - Jan 8 with 7277 views | pointofblue | ... or another target of that ilk, if I've read his article correctly. I guess Ogbene will be de-registered to make room for Philogene. Who will be deregistered for the second number ten? Harry Clarke? Guess we already have Johnson, Godfrey and the soon to be fit Tuanzebe to cover RB with Burns able to play at RWB.

Going to be the best part of £40-50m on Jaden and Doak (if that happens) plus a striker still needed. Going to be some much needed firepower in those places behind the striker. Wonder where this leaves the likes of Jack Clarke?

If we get both Philogene and Doak (or someone like Wimmer) in, I wonder if we'll offer Clarke to Sunderland on a loan deal?

All about more options I guess. SS is effective away with his press but rarely actually does anything in the games (obviously he’s scored some important goals and not taking anything away from that). There hasn’t been a single home game he’s been noticeable in yet though. Broady for example is a better footballer.

We need to strengthen our depth - McKenna wants to rotate the front line, both in terms of the starting line up and bringing 'finishers', something which he hasn't really been able to do to our advantage so far this season.

Clarke, Broady cover left. Chaplin through middle. Burns on right. Adequate cover.

Wes is unfortunately nowhere near premier league level so an upgrade is needed on him (from an attacking sense, he can work as a RWB). Jack Clarke hasn’t been good enough. Have to be ruthless if we want to stay in this league.

I can see Jack Clarke going back to Sunderland for the rest of the season. From memory, he was a bit of a panic signing after Philogene fell through. On top of this, despite how well they've played, I do wonder about the future of the likes of Burns and Chaplin with us if true, and it may solidify the rumours about Harry Clarke and Woolfenden leaving.

Agree Clarke does look out of his depth, loan back to Sunderland is possible. I think Chaplin could operate at this level, certainly a good squad player. Burns is a tricky one, I hate to say it but maybe you’re right, he’s struggling somewhat. Adequate my have been the key word from me!

You don't think Chappers has shown himself capable at this level the last few games?

Phil seems to suggest we're still in for Doak too... on 23:03 - Jan 8 with 4810 views | NeverSayDie | Maybe this puts the Doak pursuit to bed 🤷♂️ there is clearly a lot of complexity and competition with Doak. It’s possible that this Philogene deal might have been spoken about between the clubs back in the summer when the matching clause was activated, give them a chance to look at him and give us a second chance to sign him if he didn’t work out? On the Doak thing, thinking about it, as Hutch is now injured (groins are not a quick heal and we were looking for a right sided player anyway) maybe we ARE still looking at Doak too, honestly I prefer the look of him to Philogene, wonder who the 9 will be 🤷♂️ [Post edited 8 Jan 23:16]

This is the issue I have - I think Woolfenden, Burns and Chaplin have all shown themselves to be capable, and the latter two have looked better than Johnson (albeit he did well against Fulham) and Szmodics for the most part. But squad space is limited and money is required.

Weird time to say that about Burns, he was excellent against Chelsea, by far his best showing this season.

Spot on! Bring back the 3 changes on 60 minutes days! Exciting times. These are talented players. Imagine being a tiring defender facing Hutch, Philogene, Broady. Then Doak, Szmods, Chappers, Burns etc.

A couple of injuries and we suddenly look thin. As we did last season post January, I suspect we will have a squad absolutely stacked with attacking options.

I think that Burns, Chaplin and Broadhead have all shown they can contribute at this level. You are right. Wes B was excellent against Chelsea. The game didn’t pass him by as it might have done in the Autumn. In just half a season Woolfenden and Burgess have also stepped up and of course it was obvious Omari and Leif would. Tuanzebe already was that quality and has shown it, fitness is the issue. Jack Clarke? He’s learning and adapting and given time, played to his strengths and a better midfield to the team I think he could be lethal - he was 6 inches away from that last Sunday.

I have only seen Jack Clarks shot and post hit twice, so maybe I didn't see it right. But what surprises me is that (I may have missed it) that no one has mentioned the not small amount of skill he did to make the space to have the shot. That was really was a great bit of forward play that not many (if any) other players in our squad could do.

I agree but, particularly with Clarke, if we bring in another ten alongside Philogene, I’m not sure where he’s going to fit.
