Could this become a possibility and we could play Hirst or a new number 9 through the middle? Not considered it until now but think it’s now a possibility

So we need a number 9. Can't find a suitable one. And the solution is to move our best number 9, one of only 2 that we have, onto the right wing?

I think politically he's unaffiliated as far as I know he certainly doesn't come accross as a fascist In any of his interviews.

I agree with others that with shortages up top putting delap at right wing creates more problems than it solves.

Came here to post, did I imagine it or did delap start the Fortuna game at right wing with Hirst up front?

Nope...Delap started up front, and Hirst replaced him at half-time...

Re: The OP - I wouldn't object if we were chasing a game at half-time to (for example) moving Delap to the right and bringing Hirst on up front; we're struggling for goals this season so think we need to consider anything that will pose new problems for the opposition. Delap played a quarter of his games for Hull last season on the RW, so not like we'd be asking him to do something he's unfamiliar with.

I'd like to see something like this.

Delap hasnt scored from open play for 2.5 months, and I think his attributes could be used equally well as a 10 or our wide.

I personally want our best player as close to the goal as possible. So unless we pull a rabbit out of the hat and bring in an unbelievable striker before the end of the window... no.

For wide on the right we have Hutchinson, Philogene and Johnson. That's without considering we may see Burns or Ogbene back at some stage.

That's quite a lot of options without diverting our current best centre-forward to that position as well.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Completely agree

I really don't' understand people wanting to put Delap out to the right wing. Maybe, maybe, if we had some strikers champing at the bit who had been coming off the bench and showing a lot of promise then i could possibly understand it. But we have Hirst still getting up to speed and that's it.

If we do move Delap out wide, Hirst isn't playing a full 90mins, so what then? Delap then moves back to being a striker after spending all game running up and down the wing?

We also don't really know what the defensive side of Delap's game is like. If anything he seems too hot-headed to be doing the role that Burns has done

It really just feels like people are wanting it because they know he has played there in the past. This is without a doubt the most successful season of his career, by some distance. So let's keep him in the position that he's been doing and try to find ways to get him more involved, rather than being so isolated

We're not seeing Burns or Ogbene back at any stage this season. Johnson is not good enough and means playing a very particular system to accommodate him (which hasn't been going well).

Hutchinson and Jaden yes (although seems latter is more LW) but they don't do what Burns does in terms of giving us a physical outlet on the right wing that takes pressure off us as on out ball when we are being pressed.

I don't think Delap is the solution for all the reasons stated above (even if we got another striker in I feel like we'd look back on Delap moving to RW as the moment we knew we were getting relegated). However, I am surprised there isn't more clamour for a strong right-footer to get us up that side with purpose. It's one thing having options but when you're up against it as we are in this league, if they are square pegs in round holes in terms of the system, you could be in real trouble.

Maybe it'll be alright but it's not the only position we're lacking in despite a pretty large squad.

Sounds like something an England manager would do to be fair.

Agree completely Delap should not be playing on the right, but Ben Johnson shouldnt even be an option. Genuinely have no idea what he offers, cant go forward and cant defend.
