Pretty daft for the players to go off before resuming for a crowd lap and wave 08:24 - May 26 with 1296 viewsLord_Lucan

Not as if we had anything to celebrate.

Should have gone round the ground immediately in order to give Mass the send off he deserved.

Yep. I'd have given them a clap if they'd gone round immediately. As it was, I went to the pub.

Equally daft then. The announcement that the players were going off before coming back on saw lots of people head for the exits.

Luckily it meant that the 'real' fans stayed...

The main reason was to let the West Ham players get off the pitch.

No, the main reason is they do it every year. But as Lucan says in the OP, with nothing to celebrate and not knowing how long the players would go off for (it's been a fair while in the past) it's not surprising a lot of people left.

With a sweat soaked shirt the players would very quickly get cold, even on a hot day, at least they were much quicker yesterday than previous years.

It made perfect sense, as it gave time for the away fans and players to clear the field.

McKenna managed it the best he could thankfully - didn't leave the pitch and seemed to be relaying instructions to get everyone back out asap, which gave us the confidence to not head straight for our train.

Preferably the PA would have said they'd be back out in one or two minutes after a change of clothes, rather than "a moment" or whatever he did say, because that likely reminded people of previous seasons when a moment meant half an hour.
