This striker signing we all want to support Hirst is a difficult one. They have to come in knowing they may not be an immediate starter but can contribute from the bench and eventually start on a rotation basis.

I know he was a name spoke about but left somewhat nervous about this signing. Hope we don’t pay over the odds and seems possibly a stop gap player if we are promoted. Hope I’m wrong of course but no proven at all at Championship level let alone top championship/Prem. M. Guiu obviously one we wanted and I’d imagine Ferguson who left Albion for a small fortune as on the list too. The American who went to Derby seemed credible as well. |  |

I wonder if he'd be any if much of an upgrade on Al Hamidi.
We need to look to sign a number one striker. Davis aside, every other League One player as either moved on or been usurped. On those grounds, Hirst should be no different. | |

Josh Maja seems an obvious choice for me. He has 1 year left on his deal so wouldn't be too expensive and is proven in the league. Still room for development in him and one who could probably step up to the prem in some capacity | | | |

To be fair, I thought this might be the case when he jumped from Step 5 (Essex Senior League) to League one but he has made the jump quite comfortably.

Yer i totally agree. The young loan in the Guiu (Hutchinson mould) would have been one we could have eased in around Hirst. Clearly with Hirst signing a new contract he deserves to start the season as no9. Obviously every fans doubts hinge around his fitness and availability. I suspect you’re right and we may well see another signed in the window for the 9 position. I wonder what fee Kone will fetch. 4-6M would be my guess in the region of. [Post edited 30 Jul 15:09]

I don't think there are too many clubs you come into in August and walk into a side as the immediate starter so I wouldn't see that as a real worry.
You only have to look at Delap as the evidence of winning a job and keeping it. That's the selling point for any striker coming through the door. | | | |

We would have to be confident he definitely steps up straight away. Firstly because I don't suspect he comes cheap. And secondly because if Hirst gets an injury that puts him out for 3 months and Kone isn't quite at the level, we could be in bother. He looks like he has all the attributes but it's a risk as a second choice striker? | | | |

I think any second choice striker is a risk for us if they aren't already proven at top 6 Champ/lower PL level aren't they?

Yer I agree no mean feet. Hence why a young loan might suppliment. Either way Hirst staying fit could be crucial for us this season which worries me. Remembering how we struggled in December last time until Moore came in to give us that presence. We have the talent around the 9 this time
and a certain SS who could play up I guess. Wondering if a third striker with experience may come in and Ali loaned out still. | |
