I think he is right-footed but I think (perhaps wrongly) that he played on the left in one of our friendlies.

EDIT: I think it was the Auxerre game. He replaced Greaves but O'Shea stayed on the pitch. Baggott later replaced O'Shea and Kipre moved to the right.

AJ Auxerre 0-3 Ipswich Town - Match Report 2nd Aug 2025 18:58
Goals from George Hirst, Jacob Greaves and Ali Al-Hamadi saw Town to a 3-0 victory over French Ligue 1 side Auxerre in their final pre-season friendly at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps. Hirst put the Blues in front on 38 and Greaves added the second with a header from a free-kick in first-half injury time, before Al-Hamadi added the third with five minutes remaining of the match. 19

Think that like Fridge he’s right footed but comfortable playing on the left

Yep right but he has played a lot of his football on the left. He was LCB for West Brom?.

I hope we are not getting at Graves being replaced in the OP. Thought he was out best player by a distance last night.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

Hmmm...not sure about that. Much preferred Burgess...a lefty on the left. Much more comfortable.

Having a left does mean they have to take an extra touch, sometimes two, before they can release Davis down the flank.

Fridge in that position had its benefits.

Poll: Pick a goal to win the derby in stoppage time...

Just plopping a ball 10 metres in front of Davis for him to run onto was a great part of what Burgess did well. Not sure if Greaves wasn't able to, or didn't want to, but that was missing last year.

Greaves is more expansive player than Burgess and is just what managers want, in that John Stones kind of way, but what Burgess could do, he did very very well.

Hoping to see a lot more dinking in front of Davis this year.
