New here, or reality? 20:14 - Aug 23 with 413 viewsArnieM

Call it what you like, but I'd say the word that springs to my mind is, continuity.

We have had the squad fall apart since before the end of the PL season. The words " we expect to lose a couple"
(of players), all sounds so hollow now doesnt it, and the management clearly didn't envisage the numbers of players to jump ship, that eventually did.

We are essentially in another squad rebuild. Forget promotion its survival we need to think about. .. the other word is Luton!

Do you seriously think we’re at risk of getting relegated? I’m feeling deflated today, probably the l most negative I’ve felt since McKenna joined but I still think we’ll either go up or at least be close to it. We’ll be in the too 6 by Christmas and won’t fall below the play off places when we get there.

Cohesion is clearly an issue but I don't see marked differences in time together among this playing squad, compared to say the galacticos of 23/24. McKenna has chosen to bench Woolf and Chappers, chose to bench Broady before he left. With the remaining two returned to the starting lineup, if he so wished, we'd arguably have a more familiar XI than did the heavy lifting when we were last down here. I'm not calling him to do that but the option's available.

23/24 McKenna 1½
Hladky 0 / 2
Clarke ½
Woolfenden 4
Burgess 2
Davis 1
Morsy 2
Luongo ½

Tuanzebe 0
Moore 0
Jackson 5
Harness 1
Edmundson 2

25/26 McKenna 3½

Matusiwa 0
Taylor 2
Philogene ½
Szmodics 1

The chief difference is that so many of the newcomers back then clicked almost instantly. We were playing in the Championship that season on account of how quickly these relationships were formed - our January recruits who reignited the L1 promotion pursuit.

Nah we are just a championship Man United. Spend loads of money on bang average players. One dimensional tactically and just going through the motions for their massive contracted pay.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Im honestly not sure. Its easy to say " we're to good to go down", but I expect Luton thought similarly. As McKenna has stated tonight, we are effectively rebuilding , again. These things take time, and we are already a few points off top two. Win thd next two games and everyone relaxes. Don't win and thd ongoing cant win trend continues. At what point do you start asking " when either we turn the corner", given a new squad takes time to bed in..... but is it a new squad, or is it just lots of money spent on players that haven't actually formed into a better " team" than the double promoted team? A high prices tag doesn't necessarily guarantee a better player. You don't seem to get much for £20m these days. Or is it HOW the manager is using these new acquisitions, is he getting the best out of them individually and collectively? I honestly dont know. But atm it doesn't feel.right and I cant pin point why.
