If ever there was an example of why Woolfenden should be in the team, today was it.

Repeated hesitation and playing the ball out, today looked a mistake waiting to happen.

We need his reading of the game, vision for delivery and calmness at the back.

Do not let him go, play him!!

Don’t see it, thought Greaves and O Shea looked good, both with and without the ball.

The only Muff in Town.

Defence is not a problem. A midfield and forward line that couldn’t score in Amsterdam’s red light district is the problem.

We've conceded 3 this season and scored two. Only one from open play. I think you're searching for answers in the wrong places

Yeah I agree.

Wolf would have added nothing.

Woolf does not read the game well and his major problem is getting caught out of position or being muscled off the ball. O'Shea was close to man of the match today. Wolf also is so slow in his distribution, he literally stands on the ball half the time.

Can’t see the issue. We were fine at the back. Midfield and striker issues. Also, full backs were awful today (apart from Young)

Yep. Our system is not workign well without being able to add a CB when dominating possession. Greaves is ponderous on the ball, and Oshea looks nervous any time he is tasked with playing a bit.

You thought they looked good with the ball?! I think the questionable distribution of both is what's preventing the old system from working. They are both stoppers and don't want to be the ones starting moves. Serious issue, balance-wise IMO.

Still like Woolfie in the team...him standing on the ball is part of the drawing on the opposition and then breaking the lines... however for me the biggest difference is the Burgess quick and accurate distribution to the advanced Davis who is currently blocked by Philogene... Greaves is quite simply less positive in pinging that ball forward and its going to be tricky to remedy.

It's why O'Shea and Burgess or Woolfenden and Greaves looked far better last season. Because they complimented one another.

And I'm not sure I'd wax lyrical about how good the defence was today. Preston basically didn't try to go forward after going one up - and we let in far too many crosses and we're open to headers in the box at 0-0.

It is absolutely noticeable (and was in the prem too) that teams leave Greaves to receive the ball and dont bother pressing him, especially if he is pushing up. Its slow and poses no threat at all.

I can’t see him replacing either of the centre half’s. Did Preston actually create anything apart for first few minutes and Greaves carried the ball forward better than Woolfy can? Last season the defence struggled but already we seem stronger in defence.

It’s the attacking threat that’s letting us down at the moment plus I think all the players are low on confidence after last season. I like Woolfy but think he may move on.-

Yes, I remember Greaves carrying the ball forward last week. Before promptly giving it away and costing us a goal. Two weeks in a row now it's down to him.

They had one shot from a penalty, he’ll be gone by Thursday most likely.

They were all over us until they took the lead. Then they sat in a low block and dared us to break them down. If they had to push forward I wouldn't trust our defence to hold out.

Not surprised why Broady wanted out when he saw the useless Clarke being picked over him week in week out last season even though he had more contributions and goals during his limited time on the pitch.

How many times did we call to "unleash Broady" last season?

Now its Woolfy's turn. If I was him I'd do the same.

He reads it a darn site better than Greaves. Sheesh...Come back Burgess...all is forgiven.

Defence is the problem, when we are dominant like today, but cant create overloads and need a CB or full back to step in and make the extra man.

While I would like to see Woolfenden play the only way he earns a place is jf we play 3-4-3 . Playing Woolfenden forward of O’Shea & Greaves. Also strengthening.central midfield.

Can’t see KMc trying it without a lot of practice, shame we don’t have a league cup game this week.

Thinking along similar lines, I would like to see 3-5-2 formation. Granted asks a lot of Young at RWB, allows Davis to roam forward, extra body in CM and provides support for Hirst. Players like Clarke & Philogene would be bench options as this formation would require more astute defensive players out wide. Players like Akpom and Szomidics can act as the supporting striker, then it's a case of can Ogbene, Mcateer, Johnson provided cover defensively as well as going forward(good chance these three would be subs).

A complete change of formation to an old fashioned approach which requires flying wingbacks and footballng centre backs?
