I have it on good authority that he's prepping for doing this in two season's time...

The town needs all the help it can get..I hope anyone coming in for celebrations thinks about visiting more at other times too. So much good here - just needs some of the money that bury and Woodbridge etc gets!

I'm sure they won't even need prompting, but one of the best bits of prep McKenna could give the team would be to strongly recommend that they take a stroll (incognito, if need be) through the town centre this evening.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Agreed. We should be supporting businesses as much as we can in the town. Ipswich is suffering like everywhere else. It’s nowhere near as bad as over here; Swansea is dying on its arse big style. But everywhere’s suffering to a lesser or greater extent. We all seem to fondly remember busier town centres but we’re all causing the problem by shopping online.

The town has a lot of potential, it just looks a bit tatty in parts. The thing that gets me is all the block paving that gets dug up by contractors and then just patched up with tarmac instead of being ade good. It just looks shoddy and is unnecessary.

The local government reorg should help. Ipswich will have control of all the out of town shopping areas currently in Babergh, mid-suffolk and East Suffolk.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

And appeal that O'Shea or Greaves shoved him!

Potential to be what, though? Genuine question. The very idea of a town center seems almost archaic now. And if shopping is your thing then London or Norwich are vastly better options. Christchurch park is nice. The waterfront is greatly improved.

Ipswich has beautiful historic buildings and streets. There's much more than Christchurch park and the waterfront. Amazing history and culture here.

It has all the bones to be a destination to rival Cambridge and London and any other tourist destination.

It just needs investment.

Today I learned that at one point Ipswich had more foundries than Manchester!

I think that is the future of Town centres really. Leisure with a few niche shops.

That’s a heck of a stretch to think Ipswich could rival Cambridge or London as a tourist destination. A giant leap. The town can’t even bother to keep the Wolsey Gate preserved.

Bury and Woodbridge have the added benefit of not looking like downtown Baghdad when you walk through them. So there’s always that.

To be fair, I'm not sure that Baghdad is full of vape shops, Turkish barbers, and charity shops...

It does make me wonder why Norwich doesn't seem to suffer as much as places like Ipswich and Haverhill. Perhaps it's the attractions like the castle. Perhaps we should get Ed Sheeran to move the castle from Framlingham, do we have any hills available ?

It's a bit further away as well. If you want to shop elsewhere it's more of a trek.

In Ipswich you're about an hour from Westfield.
