| “Protected” 10:26 - Jun 11 with 1613 views | Chris_ITFC | lol at Sky Sports et al literally using this word straight out of Ashton’s playbook. It’s a nonsense. We’ve just lost one of our greatest ever managers, on the eve of a Premier League season, with a whole new squad to build. I don’t blame Ashton for McKenna leaving, but the myth of him claiming this word, as if us getting £8m when he rocks up at Palace in March will be any kind of “protection” when we’re 8 points off safety and set to lose £100m+. It’s just good PR, as per. Little else. | |

| “Protected” on 10:32 - Jun 11 with 1493 views | Chris_ITFC | Ashton could’ve literally written this himself, from The Athletic. What a weird way to open an article, as if that’s the most important thing. “Kieran McKenna is to leave his role as Ipswich Town manager. McKenna made the decision to exit Ipswich, despite guiding the club to Premier League promotion with a second-place Championship finish last month. The 40-year-old is taking a break and not going to another job, while Ipswich are protected for his exit and have contingency plans in place, as is policy under chief executive Mark Ashton. Those plans will now be accelerated.” The use of the word “policy” is also quite topical / funny, in context of recent events. | |

Bloke has a phenomenal track record on that in the 5 years he’s been here. Comments like yours show an infant like understanding for how the real world actually works. [Post edited 11 Jun 11:30]

If he'd stayed, we'd have had his valuable services. If he'd been pinched, we'd have had £8m. As things stand, he's torn up his contract and we'll get nothing. The worst of all possible worlds. It's really really disappointing. Assuming that the deal that's been done with Kieran means that we get /some/ form of compensation if he takes a new job within X months, the situation will either be: (1) Kieran is an honest man, genuinely wants a break, but we end up with none of the £8m; or (2) He's not been honest about his reasons for leaving, he pops up at a rival club, and we get some form of compensation (maybe £8m, maybe not). Either of those scenarios will be a shame in its own way.

I’m not. I’m attacking the fact that being “protected” is a story. It’s his job. It’s also his job to keep us in the Premier League, so claiming the £8m as some kind of moral victory in this situation is the nonsense. It’ll pale into insignificance - in the unlikely event it even becomes relevant.

Can’t attack him for his professional competence on the football side of things ?? Hello…? Our recruitment in 2024 when we went up was shocking. Not great last season either. Don’t hold your breath for this season either. What planet are you living on. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The planet where I understand that he built a squad in 2024 that got us back up to the PL this season at first time of asking. The planet where I also understand that if you go from the mid table in league 1 to the PL in 2.5 seasons, then your infrastructure on that side of things is always going to be playing catch up. Like I said, a lot of people don't seem to understand this isn't FIFA and in the real world things don't just generally trend up in a nice linear smooth line. What planet are you living on? Planet Cretinous berk would be my guess. [Post edited 11 Jun 11:31]

Feels a lot like schools have broken up for summer early this year judging by comments like the OPs and many others I've seen. Must be nice for all these people to have professional careers where they've never made mistakes and things just go up in a nice smooth line.

Think it’s been widely reported that if he “pops up ata rival club” within the next year ITFC are due up to £7m from that rival club. Think he may take a year out, rest up and then see what’s offered. Worth remembering too that he had two years left on his contract and could have left for nothing at the end of it. And if the figures were true he’d have been paid up to £10m as part of that contract. Whether that’s protected or not, or anyone thinks he’s an honest man or not is down to them. I know where my money would be

Is ‘thrice’ a reference to all the promotions we’ve had since he’s been here? Yes he’s made errors (as I’m sure you have in your job). But to claim his tenure has been anything but a success is wild.

Why is Brandon Williams’s personal meltdown or Omari deciding that he wanted to hold out for a move back to the Premier League any of Mark Ashton’s fault?
