Bruce Confirms Duo Given Permission to Talk to Town But Nyron Says No Thursday, 27th Aug 2009 11:12
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that midfielder Carlos Edwards will join team-mate Grant Leadbitter for talks with Town. However, Bruce says he is unaware of any current Town interest in Nyron Nosworthy and Daryl Murphy.
Bruce says he has consented to the duo talking to Blues boss Roy Keane: "We have given both players permission to go and speak with Roy. We'll see what develops after that."
Reports in the North-East say that while a fee has been agreed for Leadbitter, talks between the clubs are still ongoing regarding Edwards but with a deal close.
Yesterday, Edwards and Leadbitter were reported to be two players in a quadruple £7 million bid which would also have seen Daryl Murphy and Nyron Nosworthy join Town, but Bruce dismissed any ongoing discussions regarding the latter pair.
In any case, Nosworthy’s agent Uben Gray appears to have ruled out his player moving to Suffolk, saying that the defender won’t be dropping down a division: "No disrespect to Ipswich, or any Championship side, but at this point in his career, that is not a move Nyron will look for.”

does anyone know if there is any chance we are still after Gio Santos as I believe he played for Spurs last night?

He would be a great signing but likewise doubt it. As for the four Lomas mentions - I would be very surprised if Scotland was that unhappy and would then come to Town unless he feels he is unlikely to get games and with Martinez managing him I can't see it. (Would be great to get though.) As for Nugent and Healy no thank you. Kitson would be a great shout - definitely out of favour at Stoke and a class player. Shame we never seemed to be in the running for Tommy Smith.

Is anyone else fed up with all this conjecture? Getting your hopes up then dashing them. Just let me know when someone actually signs on the dotted line.

Jason Scotland - Just moved, will want time to settle in David Nugent - Seems more content with fighting at the moment (Not a chance against Keano) Dave Kitson - Rubbish since he left Reading, and ginger David Healy - He's Northern Irish, not Republic

I Cannot seem to understand why premier League players are happy to keep the bench warm at their clubs rather than drop a level or two and play some football? Out Of favour players should see the light and take advantage of clubs giving them another opportunity of regular first team football....

Journalist: "Roy, there are reports tonight that you are interested in Stephen McManus, can you tell us anything about that?" Keane: "Well I don't know where you're getting these reports from because some of the things you have written in the last few days are total rubbish. It's an absolute disgrace what you are writing about some of my players. An absolute disgrace. You're telling me that I've mentioned some players. That's the second time you're written bloody lies. It was the same with Dean Whitehead and the captaincy. (Raises Voice) I don't know where you're getting this information from. You're telling me that I've spoke to Quinner and told him that he can find another club? That's what you're writing?" Journalist: "Have you spoken to him?" Keane: "I speak to my players every day." Journalist: "You said yesterday that there are players who would not play for you again." Keane: "That's right yeah. But there were players rested tonight. Quinner? Did Quinner play tonight?" Journalist: "Yes he did but…" Keane: "So why are you writing this? Why are you putting names to it? Same with Dean Whitehead. Why were you saying that I'd offered Dean Whitehead the captaincy? You're bloody disgraceful. Blatant lies. You want my respect? You bloody earn it. Same as I have to earn the respect of the Ipswich fans." Journalist: "I've asked you about McManus. Anything in that?" Keane: "No. Not that I know of. But you're probably going to write it anyway." Journalist: "No, no. If you say no then that's fair enough." Keane: "Well speak to your sources. Whoever your bloody sources are. You must have a source, obviously? You seem to get a lot of information out of our football club. Absolute disgrace you are." Press Officer: "Thank you gentleman, that will be all." Keane stands up to leave Journalist: "I can only go on the information I get Roy." Keane: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Information? What information? Quinner? Do you want me to get Quinner up here? You're writing stuff about a player who's got a game tonight, saying he can find a club…" Journalist: "What about Jon Stead and Owen Garvan? Keane now stood up about two yards from his face: "Do you want to ask about the other players I've left behind? Shane O'Connor played in the last round. Do you want to ask about him? No, of course not. He's just a young lad and you're not interested. You're a f**king liar." Keane storms out…

lomas,i dont look thro blue tinted glasses,i just support the team , whoever is in it, because i thought that was what supporters did.... not bitch all the time and recommend players that are not attainable or who would never move here as long as there are moaners who pretend to be supporters.... if life is so bad as a blue go further north, then you have got something to moan about!!!

Circa May 2009 Dear Roy, I hope you are well now and fully recovered from that dreadful experience in the North Of England and able to come out to play again very soon. I truly believe that continuing your recuperation in the quiet backwaters of the Orwell will assist no end. To further help you here is a postal order--hope you can find some playthings in one of those big shops you like so much Love Uncle Marcus Circa August 2009 Dear Uncle Marcus When I arrived I couldnt believe it, everyone chanting my name, smiles and chants of "Theres Only One Keano"..and off I went with a new spring in my step to that big store, you know Premier Stores, ..and Uncle there were so many wonderful purchases available, but when I approached the assistants they all looked at me as though I was some sort of shoplifter..wasnt my postal order big enough I asked.. we are not sure that our commodities and you are suited..oh please please I begged..but I was ushered out of theses premises..I took refuge in the nearest hostelry and great luck..I could hear the craic in the background ..and sure enough there was Colin and Damien and Shane... you want to come and play with me ..oh yes please they exclaimed..so Uncle I used some of that postal order money and took the boys home. But guess what my new chums in the country laughed and made funny noises when they saw them try to kick and pass my new ball..so Uncle I have had to go back to that horrible place in the North where I once thought my real friends were , you know the ones in black and red shirts, well even though they dont play so much any more for cousin Steve he said he I could have them as he really only needs them when his proper players take a rest...so Uncle I hope this works, they came done here earlier this week and showed Auntie Delia just had good they can be against her bright young team so thats good enough for me.. I am not sure if that postal order will stretch enough to buy all 22 - so I might have to ask you for a top up---..hope you are well, wherever you are Love Roy PS Got any razor blades...

Fantastic news if these two players sign for us. Real quality. Be interested to see where he would play Edwards - if right wing, then Walters would either be back-up on either wing, or replace Lee Martin on the left; if at right back, then the defence would need shaking up. Delaney has looked poor at left-back but won two player-of-the-season awards at previous clubs as a centre back. Why not try Balkestein as left-back, Delaney with Bruce/McCauley as L & R CBs and David Wright as RB. If he want to have both McCauley and Bruce in, then put McCauley on the right, as he plays for NI. The defence clearly needs sorting, and without a new CB I'd definitely try Delaney there..... Best defence - McCauley; Bruce, Delaney; Balkestein...?!

Murphy, Leadbitter and Edwards are meant to be closed deals in the next 48 hours but how are Murphy and Edwards going to fit in. With Martin and Walters on the wings there is no place For Edwards. surely Keano cant drop counago and priskin after peterborough performance. So were are they going to play ?
NorseBlue added 15:34 - Aug 27
Edwards is a RB as well as RM, so could play there. It's also been pretty hard for Keane to drop (or 'rest') Martin, although he's a bit flaky and needs to put on some muscle. So having Edwards as RM would mean Walters could cover on the left. Murphy would be a hold-up player, so Stead would probably be sold (/loaned) - Priskin and Counago upfront, with Wickham and Murphy as back-up. Also an option as cover for Martin on left (usually where Murphy plays).

Something needs to happen soon otherwise we're going to be stuck in mid table mediocrity, I think these playing coming in will stop Keane moaning and hopefully he'll get on with his job and we'll start to move up the table.

The leadbitter deal is a great bit of business as far as I am concerned, I reckon a fee of around the £2-£2.5 million mark is probably about what we have agreed with Sunderland, cant see them letting a 23 year old who was a first team regular a season ago, go for less than that. Possibly Captain material to as he seems to have a bit of fight about him perhaps??? As for Edwards-on his day a very good winger, can see him playing wide right with Walters referring to his original position of up front. Only problem with Edwards is that he is 30, a little injury prone and for a winger you need to be fairly pacy which at 30 lets be honest you arent going to get any quicker then you are now! Nosworthy would have been a good signing-would like to have seen someone with expereince to come in alongside Pim who im guessing the people on this site who are slating him are neither going to any of the home or away games as has easily been our best defender this season. As for Daryl Murphy-I think Keane gives everyone, one chance to join the club and if they want to play for the badge then they sign and are commited, if not then Keane doesnt seem the forgiving type to me. Keane doesnt really seem to be buying anyone that comes with a big personality which impresses me, ok they might not be the big name signings everyone was hoping for but often they are the ones that always dissapoint. Keep the faith in Keane, he is building a side still and once the window slams shut on Tuesday then we can really asess who we have and what we might be able to achieve. Come on you blues!

just a centre back now the donkey that is balkenstein, maybe another striker if stead is on his way, welbeck is a good shout, not sure about bouazza though. Why did keano ever buy delaney and healy? healy is the worst player ive seen in an ipswich shirt
