Keane: Push Wright for His Place Thursday, 15th Oct 2009 11:36
Boss Roy Keane says he wants new loan signing Asmir Begovic to fight Richard Wright for his place in the first team. The Bosnian international has joined the Blues on a three-month loan.
Keane told the club site: "With Shane Supple retiring, it left us a bit light. Although we brought Arran [Lee-Barrett] in, I've always liked three keepers in my squad to maintain the competition and Asmir comes here to push for a first team place.
"I spoke to the Portsmouth manager Paul Hart about him and a few other people and they have been very positive, but most importantly for me I spoke to the lad himself and he was very keen to come here and wants to play games, and that was a good plus for me."
Lee-Barrett, who is yet to make a first team appearance for the Blues, is on a short-term contract until January, while Bohemians keeper Brian Murphy is set to join Town on a Bosman at the end of the Irish season in November.

No guarentee for Wrighty now. Maybe if we play against a tall side like Newcastle we play this guy anyway. 6'6

Lee-Barrett was at Weymouth for a while, not the best. I guess Keano thinks the same.

Well, if Portsmouth want him to get plenty of experience of coping with a shaky defense, he's come to the right place! Seriously, good luck to him.. ...he's going to need it.

I have no problem with this signing as such, as it is good to have quality cover and a keeper to push R.Wright. I am surprised by priorities though e.g. we bring in Rosenior when we have D.Wright (RB), Edwards when we have Walters (RM) and now Begovic when we have R.Wright (GK). Other positions seem more pressing to me: striker, centre-back, defensive-midfielder, left-back...

Mark, I dont think Keano has brought Asmir in to warm the bench. When you read the press coverage coming out of Portsmouth they are also expecting him to get first team games. Roll on Saturday. In Keano we trust COYB

Will it be a bare-knuckle fight Keano's wanting? Will the other members of the squad be allowed to watch?

We havent even given Aaron Lee-Barret a chance yet !!!! Aaron is a good keeper seen him play for hartlepool and he was pretty good (very brave). he released his own contract at harlepool and was not let go by them. he was offered a new contract and he turned it down. GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!!!

get him in saturday! maybe now if we have a soft shot from 25-30 yrds he`ll get an out streched hand to it and not dive as though his elbows are tied to his waist and catch a simple cross.

I would like to see him play on Saturday, he might be able to organize the defense in front of him a bit better as well. Three points and a clean sheet. Bring it on Swansea. COYB!!!!
