Town Swoop for Healy in Addition to Murphy
Town Swoop for Healy in Addition to Murphy
Monday, 1st Feb 2010 15:43

Town are hoping to complete the loan signing of not just Daryl Murphy from Sunderland, but also his team-mate David Healy before today's 5pm deadline. Talks are continuing this afternoon with the club looking to complete the loan signing of both players until the end of the season.

Like Murphy, Healy has been consistently linked with the Blues in the past, particularly during fellow Northern Irishman Jim Magilton’s spell as boss.

Killyleagh-born Healy started his career with Manchester United, during which time he spent spells on loan at Port Vale and Preston, eventually signing on full-time with the Lilywhites in 2001.

After a loan spell at Norwich, Healy moved on to Leeds and then Fulham, before then Sunderland boss Roy Keane paid the Cottagers £1.2 million for his services in August 2008.

The frontman, who has never replicated his Northern Ireland form of 35 goals in 78 games at club level, has made only three starts - none in the league - and 18 sub appearance since joining the Black Cats, scoring just three goals.

The 30-year-old is contracted to Sunderland until the summer of 2011.

Very very underwhelmed. Seems Keane cant buy anyone except off Steve Bruce. Two sunderland reserves with 10 starts between them in 2 years ! great ! .

I can hear the Mackems rejoicing from here after we have taken these two duds off them . Keano out --very soon

If this is true then they would both be good additions to the team. I'll be looking forward to seeing Healy up front and also Murphy whether he plays as a striker or wide on the left. With Civelli out for the rest of the season and Martin yet to perform for us we've been lacking a natural wide midfielder on the left. Whilst we've been got some good midfielders who've played on the left most of them have been central midfielders and so having a more natural wide man to get more crosses into the box would be a good thing as none of our strikers will score goals if we don't create enough chances.

As fans we pay what is a lot of money to see our team play and so we're all entitled to our own opinions but our overriding goal as all fans is to see us winning games and moving up the table. Whatever your opinions on any players coming in or departing it's time to back our manager and team 100% from the stands. We're in a relegation battle and our support for whoever pulls on a town shirt between now and the end of the season is what is needed as with the Championship table so tight it's going to be a very nerve wracking time right up until May.

Don't get me wrong, Healy is a top striker when is on fire but the big question is when did he actually play a competitive game last and if he is that good at this level then why hasn't he already been snapped up....we all now know how rare a good striker is. I do worry about these two not being match fit and thats why i consider them panic buys as if Keane really did want them why on earth did he not go for them at the start of January or intead of getting Stern John get Healy at the time. I do hope i am so wrong and Healy bangs in a hat trick on debut (if deal goes through of course)

Sorry - I'm underwhelmed by both these.

Healy a natural scorer? Not in the recent past - even for NI. What is there to suggest that he's suddenly going to start scoring again now? No, he doesn't do it for me.

Murphy - just more of the same really. Won't score many goals, though he could just be useful on the left side of midfield I suppose. (Though personally I'm pretty happy with what we've got there already)

However, on the bright side, maybe some new faces with the right attitude will just freshen things up and give the progress we'd been making (until a fortnight ago) some more momentum.

Don't really have a problem with either of these signings though I am a bit worried that Keane's scouting network exists only in Sunderland.

Assuming we stay up this year the summer will be very important for Keane. Yet more lacklustre signings that even he doesn't have faith with (Priskin, Martin, Edwards) - or more old boys from Man U or Sunderland then we should start to get very worried.

A decent manager needs a decent scouting network and a decent eye for a player. So far I remain to be convinced that Keane has either.

...Colback, Edwards, Leadbitter, Murphy and Healy - we are now officially the 'Blue Cats'. And if they do it for us then we can sign 'Niall friggin' Quinn' for all i care...

YES!!! Wanted Healy in for ages. Making the trip up Saturday now although they'll both be short of match fitness. That's more like it.

Come on you two, get us up the league and get yourselves contracts.
