Stead Loan Move Confirmed
Stead Loan Move Confirmed
Monday, 15th Feb 2010 15:58

Coventry City have confirmed that striker Jon Stead has moved to the Ricoh Arena on loan until May with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman said: "We've tried a couple of times to get Jon. He has all the attributes to be a very good player for Coventry City and we have worked really hard to get him here.

"We have agreed terms with Jon and it will initially be a loan deal but we will look to make it permanent in the summer because we would like Jon to be here long term.

"Hopefully it's further evidence of what we are trying to achieve and will be another exciting signing for our supporters."

The clubs have agreed a £500,000 fee, according to a report earlier today, although there is no confirmation that such an agreement is in place.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Blues from Sheffield United in the summer of 2008, is contracted to Town until June 2011.

In fairness, he was never going to consistantly score goals for us, did well to get money back. He'll do nowt there.

Great signing for us guys , we have been after him for ages . Now we have Morrison , Eastwood , Sears and Stead fighting for the front 2 spots .

Did well during the start of his career. But I spotted he gave the ball away a fair bit. Especially during that awful Newcaslte game. In a team of 100%ers he can't give possesion away after it has built all the way up to him.

PrC1987, you now have a nice selection of fairly average strikers then!!

will be interesting to see if we do bring another striker on loan, or if this just opened up wages for a left back

I wouldnt say that , all proven at this level apart from Sears , who is really exciting if saturdays performance is anything to go by . We have been after a target man since we sold Best to Newcastle and we are all happy with the signing of Stead .

Keane you're a pillock! To loan out our top scorer who was just finding form before he got banned. Great, we have ONE striker who we think might be able to score goals constistantly (MURPHY) healy looks rubbish atm and pablo and wickham will not score enough. KEANE OUT HE DOESNT HAVE A CLUE!

Hes no target man, cant win a header or hold it up really, i always had a soft spot for him though

Aahhh. Target man. There in lies the problem. Stead is has many attributes, but a target man is not what you're getting, I'm afraid...

Get Keane out and Warnock in

Blueknight85 added 16:19 - Feb 15
they don't go back to their club until next season surco you jam tart
by which time if Keane isn't already getting someone else in to replace stead this magical thing called the transfer window opens in which we will have allready offloaded the deadwood on big wages and will be free to buy some nice net flexing tally topper.

Agc...i could have but he hasn't gone permo. yet so i elected against it :P

PrC1987, im afraid a target man stead is not....despite his height he cant head anything, he puts in a good shift il give him that tho. and as a completely non-biased view of coventry strikers, iv got to say, eastwood is overrated never seems to do anything on a consistent basis, morrison is solid at this level but no more (he wont get you up if thats what your hoping), and sears wont stay with you beyond this season but is not good enough yet to fire you into the playoffs...sorry
