Wright Linked With Palace Switch
Wright Linked With Palace Switch
Friday, 25th Jun 2010 15:53

Released defender David Wright is being linked with a move to George Burley’s Crystal Palace. Free agent Wright, 30, has previously been mentioned in connection with Leeds United and Charlton.

The former Crewe and Wigan man was told he was surplus to requirements at Portman Road at the end of the season, having joined the Blues from the Latics for £200,000 in January 2007.

Maybe a decent manager and motivator will get the best out of Wrighty !!!!!

"Surplus to requirements", but we have no other right backs (okay, Peters can play there as well as most other positions) and three days away from training we have not signed a replacement for him. When Wright's surprise release was announced, many suggested that Keane has someone lined up to replace him. If so, where is that man? We are gifting a decent right-back to our Championship rivals and I think that is a mistake.

Mark i totally agree only natural right back is Jack Ainsley and Jamie Peters can cover that area, not sure if hes thinks Ainsley can push on to the first team this season as Shane O'Connor did but I would of thought a right back is needed asap before the season starts

We do need a right back - but lets not get too upset about Wright moving on - he was v.ordinary at best (and I did say this before we got rid). Thanks, but things have moved on. I hope he gets fixed up and sure he will do.

Another stupid mistake for me letting David wright go. Its getting beyhond a joke no new players before pre-season which starts next week. If we don't sign anyone keane might as well resign or be sacked in september which i think will happen if we have no new players which we MUST have to have any chance of a decent season next season.

bluearmyforlife... How on earth is it beyond a joke... it would be boyond a joke if we had no new players in by the start of the season but hardly anyone gets any players (worth noting) before pre season starts especially when there is an international tournement on so grow up.

getting rid of players in order to bring better players in ,is ok IF you can get better players in. So far ,no sign of that happening, as has already been said, starting pre season next week, thought we should be going into that with basis of team for new campaign, ROY sorry its a budgie wake up call but ''lets be avin you ''

Personally I think Wright was a very solid player and plenty good enough to be a regular in our team if we're pushing for top 6. If its as clear cut as Keane not wanting him then it's a mistake. There could be more to it though, it could be that he didn't want to stay, I cant recall him coming out and saying otherwise. Peters is ok at RB but better further forward and I don't rate O'connor at all. I was hoping we would get Rosenior in. He's only 25 and on a free. Given a regualr place in the team at RB i think he would have offered a good service to us over the coming years.

In my opinion we have a good keeper, good options at CB (hopefully Smith can put some pressure on Macauley and Delaney), good options in the middle with Leadbitter, Norris, Garvan. Young Wickham up top will be a handful this season we just lack decent natural wide players. Maybe if Civelli returns and Martin steps up his game, Walters or Peters on the right perhaps. Either way we need a goalscorer to partner Wickham and a pair of fullbacks, that needs to be our 3 signings.

As for Priskin, Pablo, Quinn, Healy, O'connor and Lisbie, time to be shown the door I think. I would like to see us get a couple of good youngsters in on loan from premiership clubs as we did with Colback. Hopefully Keane can get on the blower to Sir Alex and call in a favour!

When did Burley go to PALACE!!!

Surco72 added 18:11 - Jun 25
Good solid right back easily good enough for this league and will surely prosper under Burley ,good luck to him.
Franco Di Santo moving from Chelsea for £2 million and we are supposedly offering £4 million for Chopra who Keane didnt think was upto the Premiership anyway ?

Keane doesn't like Wright, he doesn't like Rosenior, maybe he just hates right backs! Lets be honest ITFC are going to do well to get a better one than either of those. RK is mental, one day we will all see this as a fact.

Chelsea must be a joke, they havn't signed anyone yet. I really question the logic and just intelligence in general of some people on this site. Why do some always want to have a dig at Keane even for ridiculous things. The only thing that is "beyond a joke" on this site are some of the posters, who call themselves Ipswich fans yet criticise everything that the Ipswich manager does.

It isn't hard to crticise the "present" Ipswich manager ! You just have to look at what he does- listen to what he says and look at the outcome of his management . I never prejudge managers or players - you judge by actions /lack of etc . Keane is a liability to the club and will remain so as long as he stays !
NB tom the blue !

Hah,this is getting beyond ridiculous..Keane obviously can't attract anyone (well, any of his "characters" anyhow)..we may as well put a sign up over Portman road saying "closed for business".

There are alot of people on this site who constantly make negative senseless comments and need to follow in the footsteps of "Bennyblue" and naff off and support someone else!! ... I am sure this will stir up a hornets nest but I just get fed up with the same old boring negativity from the same members....yawn yawn

And I am fed up of these rose tinted, blind Keane fans who think everything in the Ipswich garden is rosy and great. It works both ways !!!!!

SWINGER...He made it quite clear he was very very disapointed to not be offered a new deal and how much he loved being at this club....Apparently keane called him in, said lots of nice thingts about him, but told him that he was moving in a different direction and ta ta. I think we all assumed given he didn't want rosenior and wright that he had a deal sorted for a right back.....what happens if he can't get a better player in? George will know he's a good player he can rely on week in week out, to not have to pay for that is a massive bonus.

6 weeks til first game. Still no replacement for Wrighty. Still no left back cover. Still no left winger. Still no creative midfielder, and still no promised striker. Roy keane may or may not be a good coach. he may or may not pick a good team and know a good player. He may or may not be a good tactician. What he is for sure is an utter turd of a man manager that couldn't organize a bunkup in a brothel.

Keane out now!!!!

hi, message to Phil Ham, I assume Roy Keane is still at the World cup, but to help settle the nerves of the Town supporters who are desperate to see some action in the transfer market , inwards, not out, is it possible to contact him and do an exclusive interview and establish if/when we can see some new faces at Portman Road?

I'm afraid we do need to trim the squad down. However, I would keep Pabs and O'Connor - certainly far too soon to get rid of this young prospect. Looked good on debut against Sheef Wed away. He actually looks hungry. But its not our choice nor is it Roy's. We amy think whatever players are surplus - but if they have contracts and nobody wants them - they stay with us. Lots to do and we do need to strengthen - I assume we all agree on that one?

Best of luck David - ordinary at best.
