Would have prefered O'Driscoll or Curbs but have been impressed by Jewells attitude and mannor. Reading up on his history he seems more than capable to slowly and quietly turn things around without the media hype. Go for it Paul you've got my backing, now the hard work begins!...

Good luck Paul, hopefully you'll be in charge for many years to come and will see us into the Premiership for revenge on Chelsea. Oh, and best of luck against Arsenal

An experienced manager with a, perhaps inevitable, mixed record. But two excellent promotions with unfashionable teams suggests he is just what we need at the moment. He inherits a weak team with little strength in depth and a desperate need to turn things around. Whilst I can understand his reluctance to comment on transfers or loans there is no doubt that at the moment the team is in desperate need of more quality players.

Good Luck Paul - An Excellent choice at think he will stabilise the club and although we may have indifferent results between now and the end of the season its because Keane has left such a mess.
Jewell said and lot of good things in his Press Conference and very excited to have a proper manager running this club again.

As others have also said, nowhere near my first choice (would have preferred someone like Tisdale or Howe), but hope people get behind him and the team and bring some much-needed positive atmosphere back to Portman Road.

Hopefully his time out of the game has helped him work out why he failed when he's previously managed clubs of similar size to Ipswich (the press conference sounded promising in this respect). He's been successful at smaller clubs, with less fanbase/tradition/expectation, so the challenge will be translating those skills to work in a bigger, more pressurised environment for the first time.

I hope the sex scandal tape doesn't affect him winning the respect of the players. Most footballers are hardly saints, so fingers crossed this doesn't work against him.

He should be refreshed by the break, and certainly has a point to prove so won't be short of energy or determination. He should bring more positivity to the football club, which will be as essential as anything else to help us get up the table. I'm sure his contacts in football will be very good at this level too and, as we've found to our cost previously, he certainly knows how to get teams up from this division. While initially underwhelmed by the appointment, I'd still rather have him here than a long-ball merchant and hope all fans put their reservations to one side and give the man a chance. It's right for fans to expect progress, but hope people are realistic enough to know it may take a couple of years at least to get a team challenging for promotion out of a very competitive league.

what really refreshed me was with an interview with Radio Suffolk he said he would play to the players strenghts i.e not playing square pegs on round holes! What with that and the talk of wingers and a tight defence, he talks a very good game, lets hope he delivers!! he was totaly slated for bringing in Robbie Savage to Derby yet he has turned into a Derby icon. i personally believe given time and without the personal issues that he had he would also have turned Derby around (just clearly felt it was time he took a step out of the limelight) and as someone said today you often learn more from your mistakes than what went well - he as both to draw on.

It appears to be a good fit, not too big a name but someone who has had success and failures at similar size clubs. I think he might be a breath of fresh air, or an unmitigated disaster! I wish him well!

Relative to the previous mangement team and other potential candidates then yes he is the man of the moment. Over 500 games as a manager and two promotions out of the championship speak volumes. He will also have learned from his not so good times at Derby and Sheff Weds. Once we get away from the league 1 trap door this season he needs time and support to rebuild the squad to the strengh required to make a realistic challenge not seen since Royale. This will not happen overnight or in just a couple of seasons. As fans our expectations and perceptions of our club's standing have been seriously over estimated. Get real and get behind him.

Good luck PJ.Happy with the new man in charge, cant believe we linked the likes of o'neill, hodgson, wilkins etc to this job no way would they come to our struggling championship club.PJ is the pick of suitable managers in my opinion for our club, plays good footy, has plenty of experience, has good contacts and a great personality. We just got rid of the worst manager in the clubs history so we would have to be very unlucky to get an even worse one!As for the people worried about his 2 year 'abscence' from the game, the break has probably done him some good and although he hasnt been in management he has still kept his foot in the door.Looking forward to the next few weeks, feels like the dark clouds above PR are starting to clear

Welcome Paul, I believe you have the right experience to heal a mentally scarred squad. They've used to honesty, even the brutal kind of honesty. So you should be ok balancing the act with humour now and then. Also the Ipswich tradition, I think
you know what it means. How Bobby Robson and George Burley got us playing.
Oh, and we've definitely patient with home grown players. At least we used to...

one thing is for certain we are in a right state on and off the field, whatever lays ahead for town its not going to be a quick fix, so we must be realistic about the next couple of seasons,mr jewell i wish you well.

Good luck to Jewell as he has one hell of a job on his hands, i hope is is able to get us back on track but we have to remain patient with him as we are going to have to completly rebuild our team again so we have to give him at least to the end of his contract to turn things around. We dont want to become a sacking club because look what happened to Newcastle, Good luck PJ!

I've always believed that William Goldman's maxim that 'nobody knows anything', although a reference to the film industry, can equally be applied to many spheres of life, and I'm not sure football is an exception. Why do some managers succeed at certain clubs and not others? The truth is, nobody knows. All you can do is try and pick the guy who seems right for the job at the time.

Was Paul Jewell my preferred choice? To be honest, no. But so what? I've always thought he seems like a decent guy, and when he's had success with clubs it's been impressive to watch. His amiable nature and man management skills will certainly be a welcome change. I'm not sure he's the best manager out there, but it might just be that he's the right man for us right now.

Good luck Paul - if you can get us playing like the Wigan side of the mid-00's, I for one am looking forward to it.

So a new era begins. I'm looking forward to seeing the players enjoying their football, which I think will be key to the fans enjoying theirs too! Let's ALL get behind him and the team for the rest of the season and beyond. Good luck, Paul Jewell - and welcome!

On the face of it, this seems a shrewd appointment.
A manager with loads of experience- mostly successful!! I'm assuming that his wage demands are lower than a Curbishly, Hodgson or O'Neill which makes him better suited to a club like ours.

Like many managers at the start of a new job it is probable that he will turn to a previous club/players that he has worked with in the past for new recruits. He is rumoured to be well connected and liked within the game so should have enough contacts to call upon.

It would be great to see someone like Jason Roberts signed on loan maybe. A real goal threat. Someone with genuine pace and power, good in the air and a decent scoring record in the Prem and Championship- just what we need!!!!!

I'm confident that Jewell can make good signings, but his first task will have to be the re-building of the players confidence- which is pretty low right now.

I'm right behind him!!! He is a good manager with a likeable friendly personality

Good luck Paul!!! Welcome aboard
