Town Recall Martin From Charlton
Town Recall Martin From Charlton
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2011 16:07

Town have recalled midfielder Lee Martin from his loan spell at Charlton. The 23-year-old was due to remain with the Addicks until the end of the season.

The former Manchester United man made 19 starts and six sub appearances in his half-season at the Valley.

Last week, new manager Paul Jewell said everyone at the club would be given a clean slate, including those currently on spells elsewhere: "I’ll have to take a view on the players who are out on loan, the loan players that we have here and the players that are here full-time. No one’s out of the door, no one’s in the door.”

Strikers Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie remain on loan at Crystal Palace and Millwall respectively. As with Martin, the Blues have a 24-hour recall on Lisbie but matters are more complicated with the Spaniard where his return depends on all three parties - the clubs and the player - agreeing to end his time at Selhurst Park early.

One-time Wimbledon trainee Martin joined the Blues for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.6 million in the summer of 2009 but failed to make an impact in his first season at Portman Road, netting once in 10 starts and eight sub appearances.

The Taunton-born wideman or striker, who had loan spells with Royal Antwerp, Rangers, Stoke, Plymouth, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest while at Old Trafford, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2013.

Elsewhere, former Blue Darren Bent has completed his move from Sunderland to Aston Villa for a fee of £18 million rising to £24 million once add-ons have been taken into consideration.

Good idea, I would bring back Pablo and the waster Lisbie as well. Give everyone a new start. But we need to sign a creative midfielder, a proven scorer and a right back NOW!

Good Luck Lee. Lets not get on his back until he deserves it. He might be the spark we are looking for...

i think he will impress from his spell at Charlton, plus he is an out and out left winger!

In fairness he looked good in pre-season to me and certainly deserves a second chance especially as hopefully he has built his confidence up again. However its up to him to impress now and it would be good if he didnt do so many step overs. Good luck Lee because we need someone on that left hand side, if not well the worlds your pickled onion.

Would be good to give him a chance - Keane was too impatient with everyone!

Come on you so called supporters lets give the guy a break and see what he can do second time around. How many of you were booing and jeering Priskin at the end of last season?Norris was another one that took time to settle in and show us what he really can do-anyone remember how bad Delaney was ?
We all need to get behind Jewell and the players COME ON YOU BLUES.

New manager, lots of poor results and a player who cost a reported £2M out on loan. Yep, I would have also recalled him. Hasn't been great to date but perhaps he may push on under Jewell? He can play wide left - a problem position. Can do no worse than the lads who have lost so many league games.

It should be noted that Ipswich sent Fallon back, but have recalled Martin. No surprise with a new manager - although I wouldn't bother recalling Lisbie!!

Makes sense to me.

We have invested a lot of money in this boy. If Jewell can get something out of him its worth a try.

As some have already said, it's the Manager's job to take a good look at a (theoretically) quality player who is out on loan elsewhere. Especially if Jewell intends to change the 'system' he wants the team to play. And it could end up saving the club money, which would be a bonus when things are generally a little tight.

The reason he has recalled him is that he is standing by his coments that everyone gets a clean slate to prove themselfs again hopefully he can take this chance.

I saw Martin up close at Leiston in pre season and he was awful one of worst players on pitch and that was including Leiston players! Roy Keane was standing about two feet from me in crowd and everytime Martin gave it away or tried something that didnt come off Keane was shaking his head muttering under breath! But As lot of people are saying on here new manager who wants to play the right way not going to punish every mistake we may fingers crossed get the best from Martin. He should really be a force in the championship.

New manager, clean slate, Had a decent spell at Charlton which has hopefully boosted his confidence, a good decision on paper. Gives PJ a chance to see what he can do. Good luck Lee. Hope it goes better for you this time round...

Great news! He has the talent - anyone at the friendly against that Spanish team knows that. he's been playing well for Charlton and is a cofidence player. Hopefully under Jewell he can reach his potential. Great to have you back mate!

What do we all think will happen at the weekend? I would settle for a draw at the moment. what about everyone else?

Worcester i think we need to win saturday at home against Doncaster.... take a draw at the Emirates then beat Derby.... not greedy am i! seriously though we need to be kicking on and winning home games against teams like that. Ok so they are doing fairly well this season but they aint QPR or Cardiff....

Must have talent although when I last saw him he looked very lightweight, no problem in giving him a chance but please, please don't waste any more time and money on Counago and Lisbie, both are well past 30 and out of contract in June when they can both leave, they are not the future so leave well alone.

He deserves a second chance,

Just think what kind of message would have been sent to him if the new manager had left him out on loan.

Got to get the confidence up first. Don't get me wrong I would love to win. Arsenal was sublime. But Donno are a well organised team who will try to stop us playing and occupy the ball. There is plenty of time anyway. 12 wins and 7 draws will do it. But I take you point we need to win our home games.
