Murray Joins Torquay
Murray Joins Torquay
Wednesday, 9th Mar 2011 18:32

Striker Ronan Murray has joined League Two Torquay United on loan until the end of the season.

Boss Paul Jewell is keen to get Town's young professionals out on loan with keeper Ian McLoughlin having recently joined Stockport on a short-term spell.

The Blues will have a 24-hour recall on the Republic of Ireland U19 international frontman after he has completed his first month at Plainmoor.

Town reserve coach Chris Kiwomya was recently spotted chatting to Torquay boss Paul Buckle at the Gulls' 3-0 victory at Barnet.

Buckle says he's delighted to add the 19-year-old to his squad: "I am thrilled to sign Ronan. A lot of clubs have been chasing the lad and I am sure he will be a great addition.

"[Town chief scout] Steve McCall and Paul Jewell have been great with us and I am very grateful they have allowed Ronan to join our club.

"He will go straight into the squad for Saturday's game with Shrewsbury at Plainmoor."

He can only benefit from playing regular league football rather than the stupid reserve football that is currently on offer.

Could be the making of him as he certainly has the potential to go on and be a good player

Can only do him the world of good to get a run in a first team, good luck Ronan.

A good move to get the lad experience. We're down to three strikers now though, and one of those is a 17-year-old currently playing in midfield. Can anyone remember Ipswich having such limited options up front?! I'm sure Jewell will sort out the striker situation in the summer.

:( was hoping he might get a run in the team when we were absolutely safe.

Good luck to him, but disappointed. Just leaves us with two strikers at the club (Wickham being played as a left midfielder). Priskin and Scotland both inconsistent - Priskin not scoring for ages. Would have tried Murray or at least keep as back-up.

Can only assume Jewell has a loan striker in mind? If not a poor decision.

I wish the player well though.

Good news, as he isn't ready for our first team yet but given a few games in a lower league could come back for next season and be pushing our 2 new front men for a starting position.
Good luck ronan

Would like to see some more of our most promising youngsters go out on loan. Players I think would benefit include Caolen Lavery, Jide Maduako, Josh Carson, Reggie Lambe.

think it's a good call to get murray some first team experience . but that leave really short if 1 of the other 3 strikers happen to get an injury .. hope we have a loan target incoming

ThatMuhreCross:- Agree. Thought that Ronan may have got a run out in tha later stages of one of our games. Still a run in a good team [ and Torquay are ] can only be a booster to his confidence and help his football schooling.

Garv I'm with you was hoping to see him and a number of fringe players given a rub, mind taking longer to get safe than we thought!! Will do him good and will I'm sure come back better player. Jas we have three strikers cause all he has to do is switch things around stick I Connor or civelli on wing then Connor is up front, getting a loan striker now unless and try before you buy option is a pointless waste as we ain't going up or down this season.
