McAuley Hopes Kieron Will Stay Monday, 14th Mar 2011 09:35
Centre-half Gareth McAuley hopes that loan signing Kieron Dyer will stay with the Blues beyond his initial month. McAuley, Town's star performer during Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Leeds, is amongst the legion of players out of contract at the end of the season, along with central defensive partner Damien Delaney, who says he has still heard nothing regarding new terms at Town.
McAuley says he was delighted to see Dyer arrive for training at Portman Road on Friday: "Kieron's quality and it would be great if we keep him.
“Everyone wants to move forward at this club and with the type of player Kieron is and with this being his club, then maybe we've a chance.
"Kieron just arrived out of the blue but we know what he's like because he's been down to watch us a lot as Ipswich are his team.
"So it's great for him to be back here and getting games in, and it is good for us as well because of what he can offer our team.”
Delaney, who also impressed at Elland Road, says he is still to receive a contract offer: “Has anything moved? I’m waiting to get going! But I have heard not a word from anyone.
“I am comfortable with the situation. If the club wants us, they want us, but I am not going to go cap in hand, begging for a contract. If they want us, they know where we are.
“I have said countless times how much I want to stay. Everybody knows that. I love the area, and I love playing for this club.”
McAuley and skipper David Norris turned down contract offers before Christmas, while Colin Healy, Brian Murphy, Alan Quinn and Arran Lee-Barrett are other senior players whose deals come to an end in the summer. Carlos Edwards has triggered a clause in his contract which means he is set to remain at Portman Road for a further year.
On-loan pair Pablo Couñago and Kevin Lisbie’s terms are also up, while 11 first and second-year pros have contracts which end in June.

i hope he does sign up next season but the only problem is his wages. i think i would rather see mcauley and chuck sign a new contract first tough.

Change the record Delaney. Jewell is on record saying he will negotiate contracts when we are mathematically safe.

Thought delaney was the star man yesterday to be honest, neck on the line from the first whistle to the last, McAuley was of course as good as always as well. Think dyer will become a good asset and I'd love him to be here for the derby. But I can't see him coming here permanently in the summer, 83k a week?! Even if he took a pay cut that's s lot of dough.

Garv, I guess it's a question of whether he needs the money, or just wants to be playing football and at a club where he is appreciated. Don't write it off!

I would love to see him back. Im sure he would take a cut to his overinflated wages to play for his home town club. Anyway, Im sure Dyer has enough cash saved up at this stage. I think 15-20k (pay as u play +promotion bonuses) would be a reasonable offer for him. However If he goes back to West Ham a fitter player and he can make a difference for them for the last few weeks than he would probably stay. But he if returns and still doesnt get game time than we have a chance to get him.

SouperJim:- Make you right. He may just want to end his career at a place he is appreciated, also think the same about Jimmy Bullard.

He is out of contract in June so he knows his 83 K a week is ending then, W Ham will be glad to get him off the books and I fully expect he will be here until end of April, after that is a different ball game, it depends if anyone else wants him because it is unlikley that we will be prepared to compete at the top end of the Champ clubs re wages, so permanently its a big maybe.

Would rather you stay Big Mac. As for Dyer his contract is up the Hammers this Summer and wont be getting £83 G off anyone again so potentially could be affordable, but lets see what he is like this month before getting carried away.

Tbh i don't think and don't care if norris signs anymore, i would like mac and delaney to re-sign along with our 2 loanees. Also murphy to re-sign. Anyone else can go, to make room for newsignings.

Should try to keep Norris - before his recent injury he was playing his best football since he joined us, getting forward and scoring goals. Since his injury he has looked a bit off the pace so maybe the enforced break for his suspension might be a blessing in disguise. McAuley is simply the best central defender in the division, so keep him too. Delaney is OK, Better to keep him but not at any expense. Dyer more likely to stay than Bullard, as Dyer will not command anything near the big wages he's on now once his contract is up

Muhren im with you and this has happened before. Norris mends really quickly and therefore is often thrown back in before totally fit......he was holding his ankle last home game before getting that yellow, i think we may see a differant player when he returns to the team, but interesting with Dyer, Healy, Leadbitter, Norris and big Jim who will be the central three?

muhrensleftfoot:- Couldn't agree more. I know I keep wamping on about it [ so forgive me ], what about taking the captaincy away from Norris so that he can concentrate totally on his own game, offer it to Bullard, it might just be the carrot that clinches a deal for his lasy remaining footballing days { as long as he continues to impress short term ].

Gareth McAulay is fantastic and we must keep him why oh why have we let it drag so long? I know had to confirm what league we will be in but for crying out loud if we let this guy go be one of worst things we ever did. To me he is our best player!!!!

Dyers contract with West Ham was worth over 17 million, plus all the money he earned at Newcastle, so money would not be a problem to him. He is 32 and if he wants to play football and Ipswich offered 15k -20k and a 2 or 3 year contract i would think he would jump at the chance

Would prefer to get McAuley signed up as priority number 1! As for Dyer, well I doubt he will stay beyond his one month deal. Grant has already stated that he's here to get fit so he can feature for WH in the remaining games. The only reason they wont want him back is if he's injuried - which is no use to us either! For me, Dyer is too big a risk. Injury-prone so would be an expensive player to risk having in the treatment room. Still, great to see him back.

Sign: Mac, Delaney, Norris, sort out a deal for Bullard & Dyer, (Jewell said recently he wants a squad of 20 top quality players) new right back, 2 new strikers, let Scotland, Priskin, Lisbie, Counago go, let the rest out of contract go!!! simples!!! Tell you what Clegg, why don't I sort out the contracts for you!!!

tbh bullard, dyer are at the end of their careers and Mac and Chuck are not far behind. Would definitely give Mac and chuck new 2 year contracts but we need to be looking to the future and a loan term is best for the likes of Dyer and Bullard.

i suppose if PJ and clegg are waiting until we are safe to negotiate that makes financial sence. if by some slim chance we did go down then the wage structure has to be viable. ***disclaimer no i dont think we will go down im just trying to see it from a owners point of veiw, there is the flip side of the coin however in that if delainy, norris and mcauley walk then thats another 3 spots we will need to fill come the summer aswell as add the players we already need. if the the club was in the top half even around 10th/11th place i think they would of been signed by now.
